Parramatta Eels prop Kane Evans is staying positive during a time of uncertainty for the game, saying he feels “blessed and at peace” where he is at.

The 28-year-old says he isn’t worried anymore about his playing future.

“I’m at peace at the moment. Obviously the whole world is struggling and going through some stuff so if I don’t get a contract it didn’t come back, I’m still blessed to be where I am and to have what I have, and my family,” Evans said.

“I’m not really worried about that (contract) and just controlling what I can and that’s my health, getting my body right and when I do get the chance,” he said.

Evans is off contract at the end of 2020 but says “I think going down to the bush and seeing how people are fire affected gave me that perspective and then into coronavirus and into isolation, it’s shifted the way I think about life,” he said.

“I know I will be sweet because there are people in way worse situations than me,” Evans said.

The Eels returned to a mini pre-season training schedule last week, after six weeks out due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Contact training began on Monday, with play to re-start on May 28.

“I just feel a lot more free. Not nervous or scared to have a go and just give it all I have and not to die wondering because you’ll never know when you get the chance again,” Evans said.

  • Great Head Space. He will have a good 2020 season provided he is picked that is if keeps thinking that way. A settled Kane Evans may be just the thing who knows?

  • Thought he has improved greatly late last season and this.  His motor was good and he hits very hard.

  • Would like to see him get a 2 year extension at a realistic price.

  • Well said Kane. This philosophy will see Evans achieve his undoubted potential.

  • They always play better in their last year.

I say if he really wants it, then make the bosses take note. I've always liked the 1 yr option with 1 year extension in clubs favour.

He knows that what his place is, and price.
