The Newcastle Knights are set to rubber stamp the appointment of Justin Holbrook as the club’s new head coach at a board meeting on Monday night.
It comes as the Sydney Roosters prepare to replace Holbrook, their current assistant coach, with former Wallabies coach Michael Cheika for next season.
Holbrook has beaten the likes of Dragons assistant coach Dean Young as well as Knights assistant coaches Brian McDermott and Blake Green.
Cheika also showed interest in the Knights job but is set to reunite with Trent Robinson at the Roosters.

Holbrooks a Newcastle man though and through . It's his team . Virtually the whole 2001 team were at his wedding . He's the best fit by a country mile . He's also a great halves coach so if anyone's going to get anything out of Brown , it's him .
Cool. I hope he makes a fist of it. but means it is also a fitting place to bury his coaching corpse if it all goes spectacularly tits-up
Didn't BA resign
What BA got to do with it?
McDermott who everyone wanted has gone to the Titans as an assistant also
I think he'll do well there. I thought he was doing a decent job at the Titans and surprised they fired him. Let’s see how he goes with the spine.
Roosters just got a whole lot better.
