Just let the NRL do their jobs!

Why is it that no matter what happens at NRL HQ it's met with criticism? The papers and media are relentless. Everyone seems to be an expert in knowing what's best for the game.

Sick of this constant negativity. Yet another example :

    • I agree that there are far more pressing issues. But to imply the NRL should have been better prepared is just a cheap shot. How does a sporting code anywhere in the world prepare for something like this? This is something you can never see coming. It's like saying the NRL should be prepared should a small asteroid hit earth.

V"landys is doing everything he can to save the game. I think it's pretty well documented that if no games are played there is a good possibility the game will die. He sounded desperate for a reason.

And I guarantee you, if the game does cease, V'landys and Co will be blamed.

      • Agreed. If the season is cancelled, the NRL will look very different next year, if it can even come back from that. This will bankrupt the NRL and most clubs with it.

      • Um, the last paragraph tells you how the NRL should have been better prepared. You're not seeing this kind of handwringing at AFL House, their financials are in order. They've been stockpiling cash generating assets for decades while the NRL spent every cent it generated.

            • That was David Gallop’s failure, he took unders from News Corp for years, David Smith tried to remedy that as soon as he started.

              • The fault lies with John Grant. Under his watch the NRL raided the future fund to set up a media department, stripping the game of hundreds of millions of dollars.

The game should've had close to half a billion dollars saved. If that were the case then the suspension of the league would be an easy decision.

                  • That's a long bow to draw.

The NRL's media department had little to do with the ad. The media department spending revolved around the recruitment of journalists, the establishment of studios, the website re-builds alongside the buying back of online rights from Telstra.

                  • What on Earth has the NRL ad got to do with the ARLC poor financial management of the game?

                    • It's an example of their financial waste

            • That I can agree on. Every company and organization falls on hard times occasionally do its a worry the nrl has zero assets

    • Bloody hell Frankie I agree with you.
