Josh Addo-Carr is facing at least three months on the sidelines should any club throw him a lifeline following his recent roadside drug test failure.
Addo-Carr’s camp is still awaiting formal notification of his B-test sample after he tested positive for cocaine in September.
The NRL and the Eels will wait on that result before any sanction is handed down.
While Parramatta are yet to make a formal decision on Addo-Carr’s future, it is highly likely that the Eels will reluctantly sack the flying winger from his $400,000 contract if the second test result comes back positive.
The NRL are also set to put a 12-game ban on him should any club look to sign him meaning he will be sidelined for almost half of next season.
Even if he is retained by the Eels, they will be missing him for a large chunk of the season. The 12-game ban is in line with the NRL’s illicit drug testing policy, which deems players are automatically sidelined for that period after a second failed test.
The NRL website states: “Players who record a second contravention will serve a 12-match ban, the prospect of contract termination, a fine, and further treatment and monitoring.”
Two years ago, Addo-Carr was sacked by the Bulldogs after failing a roadside drug test
The NRL may not formally announce the sanction should the Eels rip up his contract given he will no longer be a registered player.
However this column has learnt that should a club want him and the NRL allow him back into the game then the 31-year-old will have a long stint on the sidelines.
The former NSW flyer has been in a rehabilitation facility since his positive test result.
Addo-Carr was driving in Sydney’s inner-west along Enmore Road in Newtown when he was stopped for a test just days after he played in Parramatta’s final game of the season.
This time last year, Addo-Carr had returned to the Kangaroos line-up and was part of Australia’s extended World Cup squad before the positive test.
He was sacked by Canterbury in 2024 after he again failed a roadside drug test.
Addo-Carr looked to have resurrected his career with the Eels with Parramatta officials talking glowingly of his impact at the club on and off the field since his arrival in 2025.

Make Parra Great Again
I am interested in your term "misdemeanour" it implies a moderate non criminal type of issue.
Whilst we still don't know what his second test will be, it was apparent at the time he was not intoxicated to an extent of doing somethink wrong whilst driving, i.e. it was a random test.
I think he gets punished in terms of the law that adjudges his "crime" accordingly .i.e. a driving suspension and a fine....that says to me he has paid his due to society.
NRL action seems to be set in stone with the punishment of 12 games, at this point Parramatta would obviously like to keep him but they are concerned with the image, easy reply is that he has served his time and society has judged him. Parramatta should not pay him on the pro rata basis for the games he misses, he therefore become's a very cheap player, when you can consider his value past that 12 game suspension.
He has brougt a wonderfully different style of culture to the club is equally loved by the players and the fans, why should we be punished any further for what he offers.
The FOX needs to stay and those that are not comfortable with that should just go and get a life, there are a lot worse things happening in our society, especially so with a nod and a wink, that just about every player in the game has snorted some coke at some stage and most probably driven on the basis of it staying in their system and them being guilty and saved by luck, DUI situations 24 hours later are unfair in my mind.

Wow, thats a pretty defamatory statement right there. Are you priveliged to every players recreational habits?
Shame on you for spreading such slanderous accusations
Yep!!! and as a statement it is also a generalisation........what about you Seraph, have you had a snort or two.....you being a such a natural fun loving guy that you are, my guess is you just live a "natural high" oh! it would be great to be like you......I must sit inside your head to a certain extent, it would seem that you pray on me when I make a statement or someone else does about me .....maybe you should focus on more serious things and even offer a few things about Parra, how we play the game and who with and then finally ask yourself a question what is it that attracts you to the site....other than following me of course..... but seriously you don't seem to offer a lot of opinions about the football team, in any positive way.....have I misjudged you?
One final note what is it that made you like Rugby League at all.....I would have thought you would be more of an "arty" type. Bet you don't have a drink and a smoke or go out with your friends, probably don't gamble either, a perfect example of a miserable bastard.....church every sunday would be a highlight, I can see that!
PS How many players do you think have used cocaine? obviously a guestimate, and just to add a bit of fuel to the fire, you are right "nearly every player in the game has had a snort" is an exaggeration on my part, my guess is that probably 50% would not be out of the question.
What can I say, much how you feel the need to berate anyone who disagrees with whatever soapbox youre screaming from this week, I felt like calling you out on your BS, because generalisation or not, it is still slanderous, but hey, you do you. Its just another gem from our ornery curmudgeon.
which is it mate? Am I a coke head or straight as an arrow? According to you, previously I am a gambler so why bother asking if you know me so well. Make up your mind.
Honestly you have no clue the type of person I am or life I lead, so keep prodding and hypothesising and after a few years you might get close.
Funny how when I have posted in the past about the team and things that can be improved upon, you jump at the opportunity to lambast me but when someone calls you on your outrageousness, you in turn make it personal once again. You must be a real treat round the dining table.
I dont see what relevance it has as to why I follow the sport. I can ask you the same question - are you a former player? Or is it just that you grew up in the area and left 40 odd years ago and cant relate to the area now?
So not drinking, gambling or smoking makes someone miserable, does it? Does that go for recovering addicts too? You seem like the type that would pressure a recovering addict into falling off the wagon and taking zero accountability for your part in it.
Just another shot in the dark from you there mate.
Why not post another blog hijacking someone elses post and take personal shots while you're at it? Give you something to do
And to be honest, I couldnt really care how many players have done or are on coke or other drugs. My opinion on it is do whatever you want and wear the consequences of your actions. Suspended? Fine. Fired? Ok. Rehab? Good for him. Loss of license? Great. Jail time? Too bad so sad.
Yeah, it's a bullshit remark. Most players are complete professionals . My experience being out and about over the years , and knowing quite a few players directly or indirectly through others , tells me less than 25% would be endulgung in the booga suga .which is still a lot , but a long way from " just about every player " . As for driving , absolutely bugger all are that dumb to drive at the time or even the next day. Hence why you don't hear of others being caught considering drug testing is very common at RBTs now. Even players I know in semi professional gigs are super conscious of shit in their systems after a bender,
Yeah , if it were a shit player , he'd be gone already. It's hypocritical to not sack him considering it's second offence.
If he wasn't driving I could understand it, but to get done driving again, it shows he has little respect for the club and definitely none for Ryles considering he's going to be under immense pressure next year. Combine that with the fact JAC had a rubbish season. See ya
Seeing as we threw him a lifeline after a sacking for a drug offence, hopefully there is a clause in his contract outlining the consequences of possible further drug incidents.
This may also help save his career, if it's a financial penalty, and give us some extra money to get a replacement.
If not, then I reckon he's gone!
I'd be signing Skelton for next year to replace him, since we have fuck all wingers coming thru the grades, 12 weeks is a long time to sit out, we need a replacement
KingGutho question is what if Mr Skelton doesn't want to come to Parra.
Agree by the way, we need "backs" but hopefully ones that can play to a level we hope to attain......that's why we need to pay overs, Parra's ability to buy players at a "fair" market rate have passed us by, until we can become a regular force again!
Stick by him. I hope he stays.
because of multiple reasons.
We got him on the cheap.
we can't seem to buy anyone recently.
without him, we need two wingers.
he's the speed we finally got on the wing. ( sick of slugs )
most importantly, he's started rehab. So he's doing the right thing and owning his mistake.
maybe too late! But still a good start.
