Joash Papali'i in talks with Parramatta

It was mentioned in the Jack Williams announcement, but here is some insight into Joash Papali'i. Apparently being brought in to compete with Isaiah Iongi for the Fullback role, which i think it futile anyway as Iongi is our Fullback. But it is interesting how Gus saw him as a Hooker in the making. Papali'i himself even mentioning how he could be a 14, playing anywhere. Ryles seems to want to bring in that Utility to Parramatta. A 14 that is a swiss army knife but at the same time a possible X-Factor to break the game open. Papali'i is speedy, could very well be that. He did play for NSW U19's at 14.

He also grew up a Parramatta fan, idolising Jarryd Hayne.

  • Hooker please!!!

  • Youth, speed and depth for positions.  Definitely some good moves by Ryles.  I know plenty of people want that 1 big experienced star but it is unlikely to happen with what is available and and positions we are filling.

It is a welcome change from BA years where we seemed to get aging players or unwanted players from other clubs.  Ryles is also filling important positions in the spine in reserve grade with developing players instead of aging players or players unlikely to play first grade.

Getting younger players will allow Ryles to the opportunity to develop them.  Hopefully he learnt at the Storm that you identify athletes with good attitude at young age then develop them into the role that best suits the team.  Just grabbing the best performing juniors isn't the best strategy as many fail.  I wonder if he is having a sit down and chat judging players on character more so then skill and reputation.

  • Watched highlights - looks like a good runner of the ball - great acceleration and good hands! Great job JR

  • Hearing he could be a 6, 9 or anywhere 1-5. Haven't seen him a lot but I know he is/was highly rated. And still 20/21.

"Surely Bamblett is young enough to learn these things EA. He is 19 years old. I remember watching him last year and I didn't rate him at all. 12 months later he is twice the player. Who knows what sort of player he'll be at 21.

"He looks bigger than Twidle to me. Taller anyway.  His contact will improve as he gets stronger and he can use his mobility to find his place at 6.  Coaches can challenge a players defence easier than teaching that natural flair in attack.  "

"1. Ponga
6. Sharpe
7. Brown
9. Smith
That's what the Knights want to do with their spine,  not sure if that's good enough for a premiership but it will get them playing finals"
