Joash our future 5/8

Jason Ryles in his after match press conference said that Joash is our 1st choice 5/8 going into the future. He also said that he wants to play him there as much as possible from now on to let him develop and build his game.

    • It's the kicking games that also has me worried with Joash, along with his lack of experience in the position.

  • Tough games to throw him in the deep end: Panthers, Raiders, Broncos, Storm. I get the need to look to the future but also question why this didn't happen earlier as JR response earlier in the season was DB is our 6. I also feel as though Walker would be better suited as a 6 then JP. I would also like to see Twidle given a chance before the end of the year. I can't see where he is going to fit DB in our team for the remainder of the year. Having said that we can't win games making 20 errors and making poor defensive reads. We are struggling atm with depth in our forwards so will be interesting to see how we go without Kitione and Kelma. Really miss Moretti's impact as well in the middle.

    • As soon as we knew DB was off to Newcastle and definitely after we were seeing he wasn't having a go for us, something should had been done. Yesterday done it for me WTF!!!! Hooker???? With no plan I might add. I have been screaming the house down for months, so much so the dogs won't come near when Parra is playing. Should of moved DB to centre as soon as he clocked off or drop him. Would have served more purpose tightening up or edges and add some speed. Dropped penis to Reggie's to have a good look at himself. The horse has now bolted with Elvis riding him in the fifth at Randwick.

  • Still disappointed we've pulled out of negotiations with Sandon Smith. I rate that guy, I like his toughness and he has quality in the things he does. He can also kick goals which is a bonus. Maybe it was a money thing but for me Smith would have walked into the 6 jersey and solved a critical issue immediately.

    • I thought Smith pulled out, not us!!

      • Smith was not keen on us and we weren't keen on him. He was set to go to NQ to play 9 or 14 but now Mahoney is 9 havent heard anything.

Smith can't even get a run with Easts now.

  • If I'm only watching Ryles actions without listening to his words it looks as if he's developing Joash as a 14.

Played at hooker, wing after injury and a couple of games at 5/8.

We can't however not afford to have Smith in the 17.

Our middle defence isn't good enough and Smith shuts down  a lot of traffic through that middle third.

Surely Smith starts as a nine plays 30 odd minutes at hooker before coming on the last 15mins as a 13 moving forward if needed.

You can't afford to carry a 14 like Joash with that set up .

Im struggling to see what we're trying to do here other then get a look at a couple of players to see if we're willing to persist with them in that role.

Guess we won't know what recruitment looks like until a few clubs are no longer in contention.

Our forward depth needs plenty of work.

  •  Well Ryles will know what JP has to offer over the next 3 weeks. He will go up against 3 top sides. He certainly has a running game but you need alot more to play in the six.

I think after last 2 games Ryles has more problems then a six to figure out. Displine and errors are the two major faults and not far behind defence. Both wingers were way below standard in defence and others fell off or were jersey grabbing.

Realy, yesterday was a flogging. We weren't beaten by a top side playing brilliant, more a side with a few Reggies in it playing smarter and more displined and committed.

I think the Eels and Ryles are a bottom 4 side for a few years. I wasn't thinking that a few weeks ago.

  • I don't know that he should be... I really think that's an acquisition. Douehi was mentioned above... doesn't have to specifically be him, but someone in that style I think. To me, Joash's defence was ordinary, I don't know there is much of a kick in him - definitely not a downtown long one, is he going to be robust enough at 6? I just don't see it.

To me, players like him and Iongi are similar... and I think you can really only carry 1 in the team. Iongi at 1 is working - he's playing great, he's everywhere, heavily involved, quick - no complaints about him... long term 1 and he'll only get better. Like a Preston Campbell back in the day... you really can't have 2 or 3 of them in the team... nor 2 or 3 Bevan French's... you need some size, strength, durability and at 6... ok, maybe they can be more of a runner than 7, but I think they need to be largely interchangable and both have top shelf kicking games. Just don't know that's Joash.

Maybe he could back up Iongi... but others can do that. 14? I don't think so... I think it should be / will be a Ryley / TDS combo for 9 / 14... we can't then have Joash on the bench as well. I'm nor sure where he really fits... doesn't mean he's no good... just don't quite see the fit or see him as a long term 6.

  • Why didn't they cut the chord 2 weeks ago and send him to newy what they wait 2 weeks after the cut off to move him in and then dump him. Totally a parra thing.
