Jenkins to the Eels?

Some early Friday morning scuttlebutt on Facebook saying Eels have made an offer to sign Thomas Jenkins from the Panthers. I really have no idea if this is true or the validity behind the rumours, but this is a signing I can definitely get behind. Hopefully we've made him a great offer that puts Penrith in a difficult position to retain him. They have Tago and To'o on around $800k each, Alomoti and McClean on moderate deals, so it's a stacked backline and someone's gotta go, and they can't keep them all.

Jenkins is young and has a great career ahead of him, if we storm in with slightly overs for 3+ years it will be a great investment because we're shit at developing wingers. Let's hope this rumour is true 🤞

  1. Iongi
  2. Addo-Car
  3. Nanva
  4. Penisini
  5. Jenkins

That's a solid backline to build on.

    • Simmo has the respect, definitely. I think we're just achnowledging the battle he's had with big injuries EVERY YEAR he's played with us. Physically that's a monumental effort to overcome and I think we need to be smart and plan ahead.

    • My very first throught when you say that EA, is one that fills me with grief.I understand what your saying and i feel for him after that horrific injury, however !  Last year Bailey could hardly crack the team that had 10 wins from 24 games and we had 2 test class Wingers.Bailey threw the baby out, spat the dummy, declared he wanted no part of the Eels, after appearing in only 6 or so games. He shopped himself around the NRL and got zero bites. No other club showed any respect either.  When Bailey does something worthy of serious respect, "I respect the man, but not how well he consistently dominates the game", in regards to being a classy winger  then brother will have earnt that respect then.

At the moment i'm not so sure he can contribute to being a top 4 side week in week out and become a dominate winger. A backup sure Id have him as a backup playing NSW cup. I feel that If we continue to believe nearly good players are going to get us to a premiership then we may just very well continue to miss playing finals footy. I'd rather take a punt on a kid with so much upside potential that has scored 16 tries from 7 games and is on track to break a try scoring record dating back to 1935 then to get what what we have always got from Bailey.

  • He is worth it. Look how good Turuva has been for Tigers

  • If he came to us he would immediately turn shit

  • It's easy to look good in a good team. He didn't get much of a look in at Newcastle but plays in a great team and LOOKS like a million bucks.

I wouldn't break the bank for him and what young juniors path gets blocked because we signed him?

Not sure this is the right move?

    • Can you name any junior wingers we have knocking down the door to play first grade?, i can't.

      • Richard Penisini and Nanva, that's it.. Developing centers and wingers are our biggest weakness.

    • I think the blocking paths bit is a bit of an over used term to be fair.

Unless you are an aspiring Halfback or Fullback I think pretty much whomever we bring in you have to see it as a challenge to unseat the potential starter that's what we really want we want our developed guys to be pushing for a spot not just handed it too them because there's a hole there.

I just feel at the moment we are outside backs short and we need some good ones. The team annd I hope the front office are thinking about this aswell needs to be pushing the cards in because we just don't know how much of Mitchell's prime is left. The team needs it the coach needs it and the god damn fans need it.

      • Forget about Moses' prime. We need a solution that is sustainable year in year out.

Agreed on young players needing to knock the door down. With only one Origin quality player, any position is up for grabs if the player is good enough. If they prefer the easy option at another club, we'll maybe they don't have the right attitude to be an Eels player. The club needs to make that clear.

      • How is it when we have Iongi signed til 2030? There is no way around the fact he is the future.

As long as you have teams having spots open that offer more money you'll have players looking for a path to play where they want.

"Yeah he's a very risky signing, and difficult to price. If he plays 20+ games he's worth $1.5M for sure, but in eight full seasons at the Knights, he's only played 20 games three times. It's only round 8 this year and he will have missed six games…"

From the start of the 2024 season up until today the Knights have played 55 premiership games and Ponga has been involved in 31. That is only 56%. Surely this must be considered when putting a valuation on him. If he is worth $1,500,000 per…"
