          • Exactly. Lot of poverty over there. I heard ages ago that alot of people over there don't want an nrl team there. You have people working for peanuts over there they won't like having players coming in making millions and they struggle to feed their families. One thing is for sure they won't be able to snub fans like alot of them do here lol.

            • How well will it go down that these players are not being taxed in a country that needs taxes for normal resources?

Where is the club itself going to get money from? It's a third world country and the 2nd most dangerous country in the world. I, like you, had a mate live there for 9 months as he was in the army. He said compound or not they are trying to get in and we're in lockdown all the time.

How will families go being in the compound all the time and if there issues with families and are seeing them every single day how will that go?

Luai has an option for year 3, even he knows there's a chance he can make a quick 3-4mil and get the f out of there. If he was that sold he would have signed 3-4 years flat. PNG bowed to him to get that positive press. Luai has 4x premierships, played Origin, played for Samoa. There is nothing they can offer him other than money. Sorry but if they were real deal getting top names, they wouldn't have signed Johnston so early who will be 33 when they are in the comp. Granted it is cheap, but strive higher, get Coates as that example.

              • Spot on mate. The thing that shits me is the government can suddenly agree not to tax these players well i'm sorry none of us like paying taxes but we have to .They should be paying taxes and as you said where is the money going to come from.

Albo committed 600 mill over 10 years. The stadium needs an upgrade, i think they said it holds 15,000 atm but looking at getting it to 30,000 again that won't be cheap. As you said its a third world country this is a massive risk imo. It will also be interesting what they charge for ticket prices for the locals... most are struggling to feed themselves

                • I wonder if this 600 mil will still be available if Albo loses the next election. The only reason the government is bankrolling this, is political, the Chinese want PNG. Also heard on MMM today, that Luai is also pocketing upwards of $500k a year in (tax free) TPA's, no club can compete with that.

                  • Your right mate it is political. Albo only did this to make sure china didn't come in. It will be interesting if the deal sticks if albo loses the election. V'landys has created a shit storm with this tax free money and tpa's. Most fans are asleep at the wheel but mark my words v'landys and abdo are rotten to the core they will destroy the game.

                    • What do you mean will, they already have.

      • Agree it will be 'dad's army' roster, just like when Gold Coast came into the comp. I guess they're hoping by the 10th year, there will be some PNG players ready to step into NRL. Those 8-10 year olds now aspiring to one day play NRL. Its a real possibility given it is their national sport, unlike Melbourne who after all these years and all their successes, have fck all juniors come through. Perth will be the same as Melbourne. I'd rather a second NZ team over Perth.

        • I wonder if they could get a Farnworth or Walsh? At this stage they are getting players on back-end of their careers. Since they are announced now in the end of prime it looks good at the moment.

  • This is why the recruitment group need to be in front of the game; we need to have some tough type players earmarked (with some nrl exp) and we will need more than Sua; Paulo will be gone i assume by 28 along with i assume Matto / Walker and now possibly Williams; and with Hopgood gaining injuries.....we need some more biff up front and this concerns me as juniors alone will not be enough.

  • PNG will win a comp before we do ill say in 15 years time they would of equalled our tally they will be able to buy a comp in the first few then reap rewards of local talent and NRL talent and NRL exceptions
