Not what I expected him to say. This is an opportunity for the club to make some real change in this area. They can't do that if they walk away from harsh realities of life.

He makes some reasonable points in there, especially about the involvement of alcohol and gambling in the game, both of which generate a lot of harm in the community, but he also misses a key point when implying JAC hasn't done anything bad. Imagine driving your car past a primary school at 3pm doing 200km/h, but you don't kill anyone, so it's no biggy. This is where we are with JAC, he hasn't harmed anyone, but it's well established that driving while impaired significantly affects your ability to drive safely. If he keeps getting in a car like this, he's sooner or later the next Ezra Mam, or worse, he kills someone.
But the charge is not driving while impaired. Its driving with illicit subtance in saliva. That illicit substance could have been taken 2-3 days prior.

To be fair, some of that is speculation. I'm not claiming you are wrong, you may well be right, but it's also possible he took it 1 hour before getting in the car.
Very true. There is a lot of speculation. Was it positive with the secondary test back at the station? If so he would have been suspended for 24hrs. The lab test is what counts and if a roadside saliva test is positive then usually the lab test is positive. He is then charged.

Totally agree with his views. It's off season for him so whilst what he did was plain wrong and he will be charged by cops, at same time it technically doesn't affect his game performance or is a parra eels problem whilst on holidays. He loses his advertising contracts that's fair enough and is enough of a punishment.
Wonder if Josh or club checked him into rehab first time around? Curious.

Bet there are a few players in that bunch.Everyone knows at least half the players would infulge as do many in society, so if Josh copped the sack it would purely be on the basis that he is stupid? Stupid/irresponsible to have driven.
Think him doing rehab immediately is great and is a good lesson for clubs image fans/kids perspective too.
Thank God he didn't hurt anyone and Josh should feel very v lucky that did not happen.

I don't need to read any media article to have an opinion on this matter. What the Eels should do ( or any other club) is exactly what they would do if the offending player was #30 in their roster. If they want to set a strong standard regarding recreational drug use especially when driving a motor vehicle, the fox should have his contract torn up. However, if he receives a fine and suspension, the same should apply to anyone else who might get caught doing the same thing .
I know someone personally who had his contract with the West Tigers torn up and he only had a bag of nose candy in his pocket. He didn't test positive and he notified the club as soon as he was caught. He offered to do a drug test the next day but was denied.
