How would a swap deal sound?.

I saw on talking parra podcast a idea was floated around by them which I think makes perfect sense and would be perfect.I was also thinking bout it to since the news broke out.

So Sam walker it's been no secret the roosters are open to releasing him effective immediately and here's were the swap deal comes into play.

Mitch Moses goes to chooks to compete for a comp and link up with his bsf Teddy. His getting at the end stage of his career and is to injury prone.

In return eels get sam walker, premiership winner and only 24 and qld halfback.Which sorts out our post Moses plans.

Lets be real Moses isn't winning anything here and dosent have long left, and Sammy Walker still young and still has his best footy ahead of him.I think it's a win win.

We know roosters love there veteran half's.!

  • I'd be trying to get hugo savala this kid can play 6 and 7

    • Deardon for me is the guy that they should be going after to play 6.Go back to your original plan when Moses and DB were the halves duo, have your heir apparent sitting waiting in the wings with the keys to the kingdom.

      • Would Dearden be happy not being chief playmaker and calling all the shots? If he goes to Easts or even Souths, he would be chief playmaker.

        • Yip I'd suggest so as eventually the transition would take place regardless it's in waiting .For Parra if makes complete sense we don't have to go back to the market to look for the hardest position to fill.

If I'm the new CEO that's where I'd be targeting my recruitment going foward looking for Moses successor NOW not wait till Moses falls off the cliff.

          • I agree we look for a successor but Dearden will want to go where he is chief playmaker I would imagine. Why take orders from Moses when he is currently the starting Australian Halfback? Yes Moses and Cleary are out but still is starting at Halfback.

Only way he would is if it is at like Penrith where he can win a comp at 6

            • If we want a shot at Deardon we're going to have to work overtime to find somewhere else for Mitch to go and will have to pay significant freight because there's no way he's walking out on his sweet deal at Parra.

            • I agree with your premise but this is what we can't worry about our recruitment have to sell it so he comes here much like as example Newcastles recruitment of brown that could well have kept Ponga there imo this is what we have to sell when we go recruiting. That's our challenge or we will continue losing out to better visions.

              • Newcastle didn't just sell Dylan Brown on 'a vision', hey sold him on $1.4 million a year for 10 years. That’s monster money, a big reason for him going, he admitted that. Parra can't throw $1.4M at Dearden while Moses is already on marquee halfback cash, just so Dearden can take a backseat until 2030.

Dearden is already the co-captain and face of the Cowboys locked up long-term. He’s not say no to clubs like Easts or Souths where he can play 7 to play second fiddle to Moses, unless someone pays ridiculous money we don't have under the cap.

He already is on 12.5% of the cap. So we could be looking at having to offer roughly $1.5-1.7 mil for him. Look at Newcastle now, their cap is out of whack due to Ponga and Brown's deals.

To me, if you are to go for Dearden, it is ripping the band aid off and trying to move on Moses if you can to get Walker or Dearden. That's how you set up long term by doing it now.

                • I would be dead set keen on moving Moses on for either Deardon or Walker (but not on the supposed money Walker is talking about).

Getting either of those at $1.5m over 4 years or so would be well and truly worth it.

There would definitely be clubs willing to take Moses on as long as we paid for a good chunk of his salary. I have loved what Moses has brought to the Eels but he's not consistent on the field anymore and he is quite often not even on the field due to injury.

We had a shot at winning the comp with Moses and it didn't pan out. Time to move on. We don't want to wait another 3 seasons with him at the helm.

                • Newcastles cap isn't out of whack at all there a premiership contender they've got a great group of young players and sure they may lose Best but there in a spot to be good for the next 2-3 years.Like any contender they can't keep them all but for me there in a great spot.

Ponga Smith Brown and Crossland is there spine Chuck the Fletchers in the centres and there good to go next year.

"Sam Walker is also finished at the Roosters apparently so he will be at a new club next year! Seems odd given they won a premiership with him! Would he be any good at the Eels! But then who replaces Luai after next year"
