  • thats where i was heading but was letting people draw own conclusions. do we need a couple of older type of players to help share the burden?

interestingly that the big 4 we signed from canterbury hadnt exactly played a lot of games before coming across.

    Pay - 108

    dymock - 102

    Smith - 62

    McCracken - 80

  • De Gois has brought 170, 1st grade games experience.

    • Yes he was one of the few that played with guts and determination in the two games, ironically as did Edwards and Tepai who have very little experience.

There is no doubt that experience SHOULD help, but then again there has probably been many a thirsty horse shown water. Guess I'm still affected by the end of our year.

  • Not long before our golden era we brought in lots of experience, apparently "past their prime". Artie, Jim Porter, Stumpy Stevens, Bob O'Reilly, John Moran (and probably others). It is incalculably how valuable the experience these blokes brought to that era to mix in with the Cronin Price experience and the young guns of Sterling Kenny, Ella, Grothe, Wynn
  • I remember distinctly Nathan Hindmarsh commenting just how valuable it was coming through the ranks below the likes of Dymock and Smith. He also mentioned that coming up under those big name stars also gave the younger players a reality check and that if there ego's got out of control they would soon be put in their place by the older more talented senior players. It gave them a sense of having to work hard for your spot in the team and took away any sense of self entitlement.

  • I don't think any were important from a development point of view as leaders off the field. 3 of the 4 refused the captaincy and none signed a second deal.

Players develop more effectively in better teams . Signing those 4 gave us a better team and hence allowed Hindy and co to develop around proper structures.
  • something watmough has.

  • Wasn't Dean Pay part of RS's staff last year?

    • yes and now at canberra i believe

    • Same here a players player shit coach but.
      Hard ass the best imo

Wato will be very very good for our younger blokes
