Remember Madge was also in the running for the eels job ? I wonder how that would have turned out ? 😂 seems like he's a coach who needs top tier stars to be any good so probably would have ended badly 😂

Yeah Wests are a pathetic basket case of a club. They need to rebuild from the top down, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. No coach is going to bring sustained success there until they fix that mess.
They stuffed up Benji's transition. He had a pretty good year considering but you can tell Marshall is not mature as a coach. The way he acts and holds himself is quite poor. Case in point getting a lead v Gold Coast in Round 27 and having trainers jump on top of you celebrating while you go on to score 0 points after that and lose.
Yeah Ryles celebrates but to himself. Even with the reports that Marshall doesn't really lean on his assistants. We've mentioned before that Ryles loves feeding off others around him then forming that information into his own. Marshall seems to have the attitude of i've played, i've won comps i know what i'm doing.
But the plan was for Marshall to start this year gone. But came in a year earlier after only 1 year of coaching experience as an assistant under Sheens who was told with around 8 weeks left he was out but saw the year out. So Marshall technically didn't even have a full year as an assistant before taking the reins. Ryles for comparison had nearly 10+ years of assistant experience with various head coaches.
Oddly enough, i feel BA would be a nice coach for Wests, just to make them competitive consistently. The May brothers and the Luai cliques are dangerous for Benji as he allows that to fester. With Perth coming up the brothers will be swaying their demands and if they have a bad 2026, Luai will have one eye on the exit as he still has those options.
