JARRYD HAYNE ON PARRAMATTA FINALS BANDWAGON — BUT HE FEARS MELBOURNE STORM MORESeptember 12, 2017 7:00pmCHRISTIAN NICOLUSSIThe Daily TelegraphSubscriber onlyJARRYD Hayne is on the Parramatta bandwagon, but fears the Eels’ almighty qualifying final effort against Melbourne on Saturday simply “woken up the beast’’.The Gold Coast Titans fullback is enjoying some down time before playing for Fiji — not Australia — in the World Cup, but is hoping his former club can end the long premiership drought he knows about only too well.“It would be great to see them win, and I was as devastated as anyone else to see them lose by two points (to the Storm),’’ Hayne told The Daily Telegraph.“If there was a time to beat Melbourne, it was last weekend. It was there for the taking.“If you look at Melbourne’s tries, one was off a forward pass, and the other two were fifth-tackle tries.“I spoke with a few of the guys after the game and it was a tough to swallow.“My biggest concern now is ‘the beast’ has woken up.“Melbourne were coming off two big wins, and Saturday was the most vulnerable you will see them this finals series. They won’t play that way again in the major semi.“Parra were unbelievable, but that was the time to beat them.’’The Eels were expected to be blown away at AAMI Park in Cameron Smith’s 356th game — a new NRL record — but were narrowly defeated 18-16.Parramatta are favourites to beat North Queensland on Saturday and set-up an all-Sydney preliminary final against the Sydney Roosters.Hayne praised the efforts of the Eels forwards, who did not take a backward step against the Storm, and rattled the Broncos in their own backyard back in round 25.Even Andrew Fifita, Hayne’s NSW teammate who attended the Brad Fittler Medal on Monday, said it was never easy playing Parramatta.“Parra ambush you, they’re only little but really physical,’’ Fifita said.Hayne said his good mate Tim Mannah and the Eels pack had been their strength all season, and “when they go toe to toe like they did against Melbourne, it gets them into that grind’’.Told about the Hayne Plane’s thoughts in regards to ‘awaking the Melbourne beast’, Mannah said: “If we have woken the beast, it’s a beast for somebody else to worry about at the moment.“We’ve got the Cowboys this weekend. (Coach) Brad (Arthur) is tough on us forwards, he expects a lot, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.“We enjoy the style we play at this club and we’re the kind of pack who don’t rely on one or two players, we all have a role to play and we play our part. That’s our strength.’’

  • I'm sick of all the Hayne blogs but fair dinkum Brett you are losing the plot mate, if people want to rip into him he has well and truly earnt it.

  • Still a fan haynsey ...He is spot on though Melbourne will flog the winner out of Brisbane and the riff.

    • The NRL needed poster boy Smith to win, we were no chance.
  • Nice to read a positive story about Jarryd and Parra.
  • I think he is spot on and good to hear he was devastated, his heart is at parra even tho his pay cheque is at titans, if any parra fan can't see that then they are just bitter fools. I like timmys response too funny and true we have our own beast to deal with called Jason taumalolo and coen hess plus Michael Morgan.
    • x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2 good call  xman

  • Haynes shit
  • On the other hand it's given other teams the confidence against them , shown how to get at them and also rattled their confidence and momentum . This isn't the first time Melbourne have gone into the finals unbackable favourites and been knocked out before the GF .
  • I just can't imagine the beast being slain by the Panthers or Broncos at the moment though so fingers crossed we get the chance again in the big game.

I'm not devastated about losing last week. I don't think we could beat the Storm twice in such a short period so I'd rather save the win for the next game!
    • I think The Broncos have the crew to do it if they can sort their shit out and the Panthers are probably the closest team in the comp to us in regards to style of play . I'm not saying The Storm will now turn into a bumbling mess , but it sure would've given the other 3 teams a bit of confidence .
