Hayne and contracts

After hearing the news of Haynes signing i was excited but not trying to be negative but contracts mean nothing these days. All this money they get to play a sport they love, with fans play in other countrys and they can up and leave like that if they wana look at past eels signing and big nrl signing. I mean the biggest one for us was Lyon leaving with time to go on his contract, what about sonny bill, craig wing the list goes on of players cutting their contact short to pursue more money or other things.yes there career is shorter than others but there is nothing stopping them except for some their lifestyle from getting a "normal" job,I think for the money they get( more than doctors who save lives and other important people) they should be happy with $300 000 - $500 000 plus incentives a season to stick it out for their contract, nothing would be that bad to make you quit your contract after getting big $$a season.

  • NEGATIVE, Sorry will, but you are. I mean we have just got positive news about hayne, but agree that contracts should be honoured as in the real world contracts cannot be broken.
    • I agree Gooraz. We should be happy with what has happened and whatever happens in the future happens! Why worry about stuff that hasn't happened and with any luck probably won't.
  • I agree with the money side of things.

The money in the US though is a new world of ridiculous. I was watching the baseball the other day and they were talking about a guy being transferred for 25 million dollars a season, nearly fell off my chair.

These guys are earning more money than giants of industry, coporate big wigs and of course highly skilled doctors and surgeons.

As for the 'normal job' thing I also totally agree, in fact I think it is easier for sports professionals to gain highly paid employment than your average joe due to the contacts and celebrity status they have buit up throughout their career.

Use Brett Kenny as an example, when he retired he started off delivering bread for tip top (I know becasue I used to see him down the shops) and all things being equal that is where he would have stayed. But due to his footy career he eventually managed to secure a foxtel commentating role and now he is in coaching.
