The money in the US though is a new world of ridiculous. I was watching the baseball the other day and they were talking about a guy being transferred for 25 million dollars a season, nearly fell off my chair.
These guys are earning more money than giants of industry, coporate big wigs and of course highly skilled doctors and surgeons.
As for the 'normal job' thing I also totally agree, in fact I think it is easier for sports professionals to gain highly paid employment than your average joe due to the contacts and celebrity status they have buit up throughout their career.
Use Brett Kenny as an example, when he retired he started off delivering bread for tip top (I know becasue I used to see him down the shops) and all things being equal that is where he would have stayed. But due to his footy career he eventually managed to secure a foxtel commentating role and now he is in coaching.
