What is your official stance on the Justin Hodges try in the first-half, is it an obstruction?
In 2011 we added an important clause to the interpretations around obstruction plays.
The change was that: “If in the opinion of the referee or video referee the play had no effect on the scoring of a try then a try will be awarded.”
The reason for this change was that the obstruction rule had become so technical that tries were being disallowed when they shouldn’t have been.
There remain a number of indicators that referees should look for in determining if an obstruction has taken place but the over-riding one they must consider is whether a player actually had an effect on the try being scored.
In this case both video referees believed that Beau Scott wasn’t impeded by Ben Hannant’s decoy run and that Robbie Farah had minimal contact which did not alter the outcome.
Both video referees formed the view therefore that the player did not have an effect on the scoring of the try.
Having reviewed the footage today we support that decision.
His claim that Beau Scott wasn't impeded is ridiculous. Sure no physical contact was made but by Hannant being there Scott was drawn towards him and couldn't adjust to tackle Hodges. He also says Farah had minimal contact. Farah was running towards Hodges and was hit by Hannant which knocked him onto the ground. If a defender hits an attacker without the ball it is a penalty. Hannant has impeded a defender who was involved in the play. Hodges ran behind his own player and gained an advantage from it. Therefore, it is an obstruction.

I'm pretty sure he gets knocked over and then gets up as Hodges crosses the line. Still, Hannant impeded Farah's progress and Hodges took advantage of it.
Rules not played or Officiated to.
Even FiFa thinks League is a Joke !
It was a try. No one was obstructed. No such thing as a sheppard these days ffs.
Fucking Predictable!
Here are some of the outstanding things Bill Harrigan has brought to Rugby League!
* Corner post rule change mid season (the brain child of Bill Harrigan and Andrew Voss trying to make league more like Oz-tag which they are heavily involved in, because they never had what it takes to play league)
* Two Referees (Another change to the game's fabric that was unnecessary, you just have to watch the tests between Aus & NZ to see how much better one ref is!)
* The Knock-on Try (this my favourite rule change, when the player carrying the ball has no responsibility when putting the ball down for a try, if a defender "changes his gate"???wtf.)
* Benefit of the Doubt (when there is doubt in a try scoring play it goes to the attacking player, for example: Lets say Jarryd Hayne scores a try down the touch line, 2 metres behind him is touch judge looking at his feet, he does not put his flag up, it goes to the video ref and they look at it 9 times, that is when the benefit of the doubt rule applies, oh wait or does it Bill?
* Dominate and Surrender Tackles (Fucking seriously just call fucking held you Twats!)
* Against the Spirit of the Game (Cant think of a reason to blow penalty? just make one up like Bill did in the 89 Grand Final!, "what was that for sir? ahh.... uhm... errh yes! it was against the spirit of the game "wtf")
* The Shepard Try (The newest edition to Bill's gimics, where you can run behind a your own player and score a try! yes thats right! all you players that have been diving down to ground surrendering when you go behind your decoy, your idiots! how many trys could you have scored?
The sooner someone gets rid of this blight on the game and untangles the mess he has created the better.
Of course it was correct.
At the very least, it was consistent - Qld scum ALWAYS get the benfit of the doubt with the video ref.
Maybe they're sending some of those Gold Coast meter maids to "keep the video ref company" during the games.
The Gold Coast Meter Maids only went once IH8 and vowed NEVER to return
They said when they got their the refs had already done it all themselves
in the game i have played all my life it is a sheppard simple as that .
wether a player was obstructed or not you just cant run behind you own player .
its not rugby league it is a disgrace .
There is no such thing as a sheppard any more bro. Changed years ago.
