Happy Birthday to Us

Going by my analytics, it is exactly a year ago that 1Eyed Eel switched over to the current format.

For those of you who haven't been around for more than a year, we used to look like this. This site went live in January 2005 and carried through to July, 2009.

She was a dear-old girl. I mate of mine hand-coded it, based on my specifications. And while she had many neat features over time she got buggy as hell, including not letting anyone new register for about six months and a Last Match feature and ladder that didn't change for about a year. It's worth clicking on the links just to read some of the things we were saying this time last year!

That site was version two. There may still be a couple of you who remember the very first iteration of the site, back when it was just a basic blog. That kicked off in March of 2004, making this the 7th season we've covered the mighty Blue and Gold.

Here's a link to some of that very early stuff.

Anyway, I like to think that 1Eyed Eel is not just a website, but a community. There have been many times when I have been overwhelmed with my work and have not been able to barely look at the site for weeks on end and you guys have kept it rocking.

So I thought you might be interested in some of the stats over the past year:

Number of people who visited the site in the last 12 months: 79,968

Number of visits to the site in the last 12 months: 464,278

Number of pages viewed over the last 12 months: 2,891,508

Average amount of time, people spend on the site each visit: 6 mins 42 secs

(Someone asked how much lost productivity is 1Eyed Eel responsible for in a blog once. Well based on these stats last year it was 51,844 hours which at an average Australian hourly wage, that's about $1,425,710 in potential loss productivity)

The most read post was Bosanac's rumour about Eric Grothe.

Most popular video was Joel Hoffma's 'Parra Fan' followed by 19yo Jarryd Hayne starting a SOO brawl and this Brett Kenny tribute

Most popular profile was mine :-) Then Slippery Eel, Bongo boy, Tinkerbell, Parragirl and Tamara! Then Jamesy, Johno, EELS4life2010, Bourbon Man, Doonsta, Koutsoukos, AceEel, Clive, SharkiesBoomBoomBoom and Dan.

Current registered member number is 1,218. There have been about 3,400+ blogs which is close enough to ten every single day of the year.

That's one heck of a year!

  • If only the Parramatta Eels were as successful as this site! HAPPY BIRTHDAY 1EYEDEEL.COM
  • Happy Birthday 1eyedeel.com
  • Been here since '05 and still going strong! Go Parra =)
  • Parraeels had to start a new profile remember. Put his two profiles together and he would have figured prominently, I'd suggest.
  • Fantastic job mate!

Great piece of nostalgia, re the old sites!
  • I think we should celebrate with a bubble bath and wine!
  • I love the lost productivity stats more than the others! I can confirm I'm contributing to a huge chunk of it... But I see my colleague wasting his time at the Bulldogs Debate Page so I think I'm doing way better in the scheme of things! ;) Besides, what other site can you go to with round-the-clock Eels coverage and you'd be hard pressed to find users with better chant composition skills or longer memories than the ones here! Thank you so much for the webspace! :)
  • I sort of miss the old site when I was called YEel... Nah actually I don't. Anyway Happy Bday www.1eyedeel.com!

On a side note though, if we start another new site, maybe we could turn our season around. Lol.

You know how much I love your articles Phil and have been so happy to contribute to this site. It has become more than just a site now and is a real community of which you should be very proud!

Can we have cake when I get home?
