A good read Bluey, thanks for posting. Seems to be on point with the consensus on 1EE.
Interesting. I would have to agree with this. It's clear that we don't have a "system" in place, or that our backup halves are not capable of replicating them. In fact you could argue that our system is for Moses to read the play and put in amazing plays that gets the points, but you can't replicate that. If players don't know their roles and if back-ups can't step up and take over as required, we are going to continue to be very erratic.
What exactly is the "system", though?
Thanks, Bluey. It's spot on. Agree completely.
How well the structures and fundamental one-percenters are executed coupled with footy IQ is the foundation of everything: from good defence to building pressure providing opportunities for unstructured second-phase play. It also speaks of culture.
That's why champion teams often have both great defence and attack (such as the Panthers, Storm, Roosters) or otherwise hit that right balance before winning a title even if they didn't get it right before (e.g. Tigers in 2005).
But the halfback is a central cog in the structures as well as having the footy IQ (the more collective footy IQ in the team the better) to read and direct play to take advantage of opportunities.
At the moment, we're falling behind in all those areas and our confidence, structures, fundamentals and defensive resolve are being shot to pieces.
And then we have a four game halfback (with a 25% winning ratio) who is babysitting a rookie and trying to be a running six and organising seven directing the whole team and at the same time and cover defend. Meanwhile, the Lussick and Gutho or Junior spin out and start doing frantic things to compensate for all the systems going to sheeit.
BA is rewarding Dylan for all the good things he is doing by giving him the halfback jersey, when he should be finding someone to alleviate the pressure on him and allow him to do what he does best - run the ball and pop up everywhere in cover.
The only thing we have is skill and potential in waiting.
It seems like we only have a system for our top 17. The moment we have an injury, its like we play to a new system because the replacement player has a completely different role to the player he is replacing.
Spot on Hoe. Couldnt agree more.
