      • I get that the future is now but just for the sake of winning this year, I would not play Smith at lock till next year. TDS is not strong enough defensively to have a smaller bloke like Smith on the field with him. Needs a pre season to fix TDS defence before this can happen. Also worried about our go forward with both on

    • It sucked monkeys arse that move and I hope they never do it again. The attack lost all impetus when Smith went to lock and they took Walker off.

There trying to find a way to get more juice out of Smith as he has the motor to go for more.

Right now I've got Smith well ahead in the hooking stakes purely off of workrate.TDS still isn't acclimated to his role in the team and you saw those 2 errors in the end and the serve Moses was giving him.

Smith quietly is on the improve weekly the kicking out of dummy half picking his moments run or pass.I'd go close to say there aren't to many automatic selections weekly but I'd say Smith is one of them when the top 13 is picked.

      • Again, as I said before, Smith just does the simple stuff so well. He doesn't do a lot wrong. Not a creative Hooker, similar to Brendan Hands but much better.
Hands is a basic Hooker that does nothing overly well but nothing overly bad. Smith is great in defence, solid in passing and has an odd kick here and there.

  • I think JDB will really him us next year. His meters per carry is suprisingly high. Also starting him will allow Moretti and Walker to come on the field together and work their combination that looked so promising earlier in the year.

    • Middle defensively it still needs work that's where I want to see JDB operating as the starting 13 moved into the prop role when Junior is spelled.Him and Hopgood can punch out minutes without losing lateral agility and effort in the middle. He's another piece we have a nice blend of youth and size.Moretti Paulo JDB Hopgood and Tuivaiti.

Smith JDB and Hopgood are huge because they do the dirty work clean up in the middle.Just got to keep 2 of those first 3 mentioned on for the defensive work effort we can't afford to,lose ruck control. That's all I watch when we have the ball first contact kick pressure Those 3 first mentioned will be integral to our continued improvement.

      • Yep I think we all recognise the improvements in defence due to JDB signing. He, Hopgood and Smith defensive workhorses.

Was just trying to allude to improvement in attack in this comment.

        • They need to go buy a experienced six. We should not have chased TDS he was not needed. For mine RS will be in the top 5 nines next year. I realy don't think Tds will be a better nine then RS. Joash should have been locked in as our 14 he can play 1, 6 and 9.

That would have given Ryles the coin to go out and buy the the million dollar six we need.

It's great to build within but now and then you need to go out and buy that marquee x factor player. And we need a factor six.

          • We needed a good backup hooker regardless of the hooker rotation Ryles chooses, so that money was appropriately spent on TDS. We still need a good 6 though. Just wondering if Hawkins will develop enough though?

            • Clintorian, fair points.

I suspect someone's got into Hawkin's ear or he's looked at his own videos. He was running more yesterday. More direct. Even breaking tackles. Positive signs.

On the downside, he only put up one bomb, I think, didn't fire many shots with the boot and missed a fair few tackles.

Areas to work on, but I think there's some definite improvements. Encouraging signs.

Six is still up for grabs I'd say. And we have a young spine outside of Mozes. An experienced six would be ideal. At worst and as a stop gap I'd say Walker could probably do it if we don't recruit someone or Little Pap and Hawkins don't work.

      • I think Ryles made the wrong move. It was a tight game and Cows were playing quick footy. I think it was a game the parra players needed to win, for there confidence and the feelings to be a winner.

They keep hearing they are improving, probably feel it. And today showed to them as players they are winners.

With the game on the line the team needed there best nine out there, and RS is there best nine by along way.

        Sorry Ryles but wrong call.

"That's total bullshit Wiz. He was close to signing with us but, he asked his old man what to do, and he said stay. From what I've been told, he is staying on the coast."
