As it stands right now Reed Mahoney is our guy for the next ten years. Form in underage footy is only an indicator of a players potential. We don't know if Schneider's form at that level tranlates to the NRL, we do however know that Mahoney's has, and can reasonably expect it to continue to do so.
The next big thing isn't always the next big thing. More often than not the guy you currently have is as good, if not better than the next guy in line.
I agree on Reynolds he would add a lot to our roster for the reasons you have stated.
Poppa, thats utterly a short sighted view. Hes done nothing wrong. In fact he cut a few blokes in half at the start of the game last week which changed the direction of there attack. He is in no way a weakness and only going to get better. If he took a dart one or two more times a game you wouldnt be able to fault him. I dont care if he doesnt become a rep we just need him to do his job. Which he is.
I agree with about Reynolds. As long as he understands his spot is at 14 and his role is to re ignite attack at the required point.
All through his NRL career with the Dogs, Josh consistently put on terrible brain snaps and this is part of his lack of composure. Lots of hype does not equate to a winning mentality.
There has been a lot of work put in to calm Mitchel Moses down so he is no longer prone to brain farts and he is now that close to healing this awful part of his game-attitude.
Bringing Reynolds over is not a good thing for Mitchel, Dylan Brown, Clint Gutherson and Reed Mahoney.
We need tough players with the essential skill-sets and composure, especially coming from any mature player we bring in to our spine.
Think of Copper Cronk, Cameron Smith, etc. These guys ooze composure for 80 minutes. It's rare to witness serious brain farts from these type of very tough players.
Better to have an average NRL player who is tough and has composure than bringing over Josh Reynolds which would be an absolute disaster to the calm & composed culture our club is now breeding.
Sometimes it pays to be grateful for what you have, Reed is our guy and let's not go changing that. He will get better with time/experience. Same goes for Moses and Brown, some persistance and patience is what's required.
Even though it was a brief stint after replacing Mahoney in the win over the tigers , Jason salmon was quite sharp and at all did not look out of place in that dummy half role .
Yes pops, i suppose one swallow does not make a summer, so the jury is still out, i must agree
True, but it could make a pretty good date....
Gotcha ! Hook ,line and sinker.. lol
Competition for spots has helped the Eels this year and I can't see any problem with an each way bet; Mahoney is the incumbent and doing a great job but in a couple of years if Schneider is good enough he could transition into the NRL through injury, play # 14 or take Mahoney's spot.
Mahoney has been a surprise packet, obviously his work rate is first class but his line speed in defense, speed of service, width of pass, low error rate and toughness are top shelf. He can kick out of dummy half (could do this more) and is alert to running from dummy half. As a smaller body I felt he was being targeted in the defensive line in the first dozen games but he does seem to be getting more support from Nathan Brown and Gower recently. It's his spot to keep if he continues to develop and can stay injury free.
