Extra-ordinary Parra board meeting held today

NEWS | 1Eyed Eel understands that the Parramatta Leagues Club board is today holding a snap extraordinary general meeting.

It is believed that it is not the first non-scheduled meeting to be held this week. Nominations for the Leagues Club close today and it is understood Denis Fitzgerald's potential nomination has caused considerable consternation within the Leagues Club board. However, rumours also suggest there could be even bigger issues afoot related to the running of the club.

The Daily Telegraph reported yesterday that the board is considering its option in relation to suspending Denis Fitzgerald and potentially stripping him of his life membership.

It so it is not the first time that the board has threatened Fitzgerald's membership, with the last instance resulting in a settlement being reached after Fitzgerald proceeded down the Supreme Court route. 1Eyed Eel understands that the board contacted Fitzgerald and invited him to front the board to discuss the disagreement with Mario Libertini, however Fitzgerald instead chose to send a letter to the board detailing his side of the event.

Fitzgerald was reported to be one of 13 people, who attended the Director's training, a mandatory component on running for the Leagues Club election

is there something here happening that we don't know about?

What does he have to gain by being chairman and on board?

  • You seem to be in awe of his abilities. Apparently he was the reason Hayne is not a Rooster, no one will ever defeat him in an election etc. Just an observation.
