For me it's Gower.
He is unlikely to win U a game but he is a safe play good ball control n defence. In fact there was an obscure stat last yr where the eels for n against was positive with Gower on the field.
Evans equally is unlikely to win U a game but his lack of discipline n extremely poor second phase play aka throwing the ball to noone might cost us a game.

The thing that pisses me off with Evans are his handling errors. He'll drop the ball at least one time. On the other hand I can't ever remember Gower dropping the ball. Truth me told Evans is making good yardage with his running this year and overall he's must better than the player we were cursing last year.
This year Evans has been very good off the bench, the last two weeks he has been quiet big for us... last year I would of said gower all day but this year so far Evans is very hard to go past
Gower is Steve Waugh, reliable no frills, will work hard and do the job that's asked of him .
Evans is Mark Waugh, has the natural assets to be a game-breaker however it won't happen every game and there may be some average performances in between the big performances.
Mix and match, depending on the opposition, good position to be in if your the coach
Evans won't be dropped off the bench at his current form. If he plays like he did against the sharks, he will keep his position even at full strength.
Credit where credits due, he may have turned the corner
Gower has better feet and makes very good post contact metres because he gets in between defenders regularly. He’s also better for offloads and before the line passing.
Evans is a massive body with decent leg speed.
Personally I think Gower offers more
Tough one. Evans is running hard and bending the line this year. Over 40 post contact metres against the sharks and roosters.
Id stick with Evans, he’s got a higher ceiling.
Playing off a foundation set by our larger wingers and backrowers, coupled with Paulo, players like Evans are looking better. But in general I'd say Gower is a better player. Evans is probably more effective body shape wise to take advantage of our better go forward.
Cronulla's tactic against us was to attack in behind the ruck and we managed to defend that solidly. Brailey's one of the quickest from dummy half and combined with Fifita and Prior the sent plenty of traffic in behind our markers and forced our A defenders to work hard through the middle. It really depends on how well we defend the middle and slow the ruck. Hodgson won't run if he has a slow ruck.
Good point Poppa,
If we are expecting to be tested by Hodgson and a fast ruck do you think thins may have an impact on Mahoney? And will he get through 80mins? Maybe Stone is an option for the last 20min to play hooker.
