Eels Punish Roosters

It was a match that had everything. From controversy and rough calls to individual brilliance and well executed plays. The Eels came into the match after being hammered by the Wests Tigers but still with some confidence having been able to score 22 points early on. The Roosters have been struggling of late but won last week in a tough match.

The match started with the Roosters on the attack after they reeled in a short kickoff. It seemed they had crashed over in the following set but a knock-on resulted in no try. However, it would be the Eels who would score first after they drove down field via a Luke Burt break and kick and Ryan Morgan crossed over and the score read 6-0. The Roosters responded 20 minutes later when Brad Taikarangi crashed over. The Roosters began rolling forward and Anasta seemed certain to score but, as he's done so many times before, Nathan Hindmarsh was there to hold Anasta up. On the next play the Roosters went wide and this time it was Luke Burt who took the intercept and prevented an almost certain Roosters try.

The Eels wrestled back control of the match when Nathan Hindmarsh crossed for his 60th career 4 pointer after stepping his way through the Roosters defence. The roar was deafening. Then it was the former Rooster, Cheyse Blair who cashed in as he slid over and the score had raced to 18-4. The Roosters responded however when Braith Anasta ran through a gaping hole in the defence and slid over. The score at halftime read 18-10.

The second half again started with the Eels on top and pressuring the Roosters early. Cheyse Blair had seemingly scored an unbelievable try when he picked up a loose ball, kicked ahead and picked up the ball from a Minichello mistake. However it was called back after apparently Matt Ryan was caught offside in the play. The Roosters then went on a charge with Adam Henry and Jake Friend scoring within 3 minutes of each other. The scored read 22-18 and the Eels seemed in trouble.

However, it was the kid from Cherbourg who turned it around. Chris Sandow scored his first when he grubbered for himself and re-gathered the ball. Then it was Nathan Hindmarsh who threw a beautiful cut-out pass to hit Ryan Morgan on the chest and he went over for his second. Sandow then scored his double when he took the ball to the line, dummied, stepped and crawled his way over.

The night had some players finally mark their name down as serious NRL players. Reni Maitua continued his vein of form and played another superb match. Justin Horo seized his second chance and put in an impressive performance to stake his claim for a bench spot next week. Luke Burt continued his impressive goal kicking performance, nailing 6/7 attempts. Nathan Hindmarsh as always busted his guts and was involved in almost everything he could be. Jake Mullaney looked threatening nearly every time he got the ball and Cheyse Blair had an impressive game against his former club. It was truly a night to savour for the blue and gold faithful.

  • nice write up super, its obvious your learning from my posts young grasshopper..

  • Nothing makes me more proud then when they can beat both the opposition & blatant cheating refs!

After the Blair try was disallowed (which I still don't know why) & back to back tries off penalties I was waiting for the Elephant Man (aka Maxell) to pull on a Roosters jersey! It's pretty obvious after the past two weeks that the EM has backed the Eels to be wooden spooners.

  • This would have to be the first time in about 20 years where I didn't actually know that the Eels were playing tonight! Nor did I know the final score - which of course can't be gleaned from this 'Top Blog' - standing prouder than a honeymooner's dick at the top of the site - yet failing to deliver the most pertinent piece of information.

Guess mismanagement and poor coaching does cost you in a competitive environment. I was more pissed off about the Swans losing to even give two shits about the Eels.

Thanks SK. Thanks Roy Spaghetti and thanks Eels board. I hope whoever is running - and bearing in mind I asked as to who was running in another blog and was completely ignored (like it's some kind of fucking secret) - does a better job of selling our brand because right now it's about as relevant as the former Gold Coast United soccer team.

  • I would like to know who is entitle to vote for the Football club election

    • According to Muttman, it will be Season ticket holders, BGA members and football club members.

  • Whilst I appreciate Bongo,  that yourself and Muttman are providing useful information can I just say that can we keep the election discussions to a minimum on this blog. We're still trying to work out how to organise the election blogs and that will occur soon.

  • Election blogs are everywhere bourban man you leper - take one hand off your dk and put it on the mouse and have a look around the site! this blog is about the game!

Tautai was godawful and should have been pulled for multiple indiscretions - paulos defensive reads are still very poor - sandows final kick options still need work and opposition teams are floating across to sandow with a big ball runner flying directly at him anywhere from 20 out and scoring - we rarely protected sandow adequately!

would appreciate getting a bit more horo before seasons finish and our errors show that discipline is still an issue!

On the positive side - there was lots to be happy about in attack with sandow, roberts controlling well and the addition of paulo did create questions for the rooters who had to deal with his floating which extended our back line around theirs

forwards; moi moi was running strong and matua also was good, ryan struggled after an early head knock, and hindy was sensational - hopefully i can tell my kids i saw his last try! (was a great ball from Smith - who also passed a few shockers)

Mullaney solid - needs an off season to bulk up, blair i liked altho he still needs work on his defence and morgan ryan is really starting to look like a little jamie lyon!! sio not his best but did his job!

Was good to see not one but 2 knuckles even tho we got towelled in both mannah v hargreaves = balls and blair was unlucky not to have any room to swing any!

did anyone else see the bloke in the blue sequened dress and viking hat in parra colours??? thats support!

  • Hmmm, while i greatly appreciate Parra's win, i find this post mediocre and a bit up it's own ar$e

    • With all due respect, you look like you came out of your own arse!!!

    • Ah sorry, I get ya now... you mean mediocre like Liverpool and Gerrard??
