NRL 2022 market watch: Eels nab Jirah Momoisea from Knights, Sam Walker in talks with Roosters
The Parramatta Eels have added a key piece in their backrow reshuffle.
The Eels have moved to replenish their forward pack by prizing talented Kiwi forward Jirah Momoisea out of Newcastle.
The skilful front-rower has agreed to terms with Parramatta and is poised to put pen to paper on a two-year deal from 2023.
The signing is critical for the Eels ahead of a huge turnover of talent in the forward pack that includes Isaiah Papalii (Tigers), Marata Niukore (Warriors), Oregon Kaufusi (Sharks) and Nathan Brown (released).
Jirah Momoisea’s time with the Knights has been limited by injury.
Scouted by the Melbourne Storm from New Zealand in 2017, Momoisea spent 12-months in the elite Storm system before being signed by the Knights in 2018.
The Storm plucked Momoisea out of the esteemed St Paul’s College rugby union system where the 193cm forward was captain.
The 23-year-old has progressed through the Knights lower grades to earn eight NRL games, his most recent stint from the interchange bench against Manly in round five.
In recruiting Momoisea, Parramatta are backing their proven history of developing talent into established NRL players, as they have done with Shaun Lane, Niukore, and Papalii.
The Eels have also signed Penrith forward J’maine Hopgood from 2023. — with Jen Dawson and 3 others.

Ok fair enough adding some depth. Momoisea was on Newcastle's book for a long time but suffered a lot of injuries. Only debuted last year, tall and rangy can play on an edge and in the middle.
Surely Cartwright realises it's his time to have a big pre season and be permanent player in our 17. We havennt signed at star forward so it's leave the door open for Carty.
Until perhaps Crichton.
he dosnt need a big pre season EA, all he has to do is work that very very small space between the left ear and the right ear. If he would just contain the urge to sprint out of the line, concentrate on the state of play and the field position before deciding to throw a hail mary or a miracle pass. If he would just commit to fully tackling and getting back to the line with the rest of the boys. Then Carty my friend could be great for us. Its not his physical presence its that small space above and behind his mouth, that he needs to excersize.
Its become a highlight of some of our players, its an attitude and a lack of leadership on the field to demand more. In cartys case BA implements consequences for his cartys actions and that is a long stint in reggies until he comes of age. Wish him the best but i just dont think he gets it.
Huh? All the idiot Arthur had to do is give some gametime this season. They were plenty of games this season when BA could given him proper time.If he doesn't perform then drop him.
I agree BE the speed between his ears is not coordinated with the rest of his body. He needs to let the miracles be performed by Jesus and concentrate on being an apostle.
This is the type of signing BA gets the best out of, you can't possibly be critical with BA's track record.
Yes, spot on....he is a good opportunity.
What happened to the young hooker Parramatta signed from Newcastle?
Are you talking about Hands, the hooker we signed from Penrith?, he is coming off the bench in reserve grade.
