The coaching merry-go-round has been settled for the moment - but the next round of movement is already being planned for further down the track.
And the big tip is for Parra to make a play for Sharks coach Shane Flanagan in 2020.
Brad Arthur enters the new season under immense pressure after collecting the wooden spoon this year and needs to win plenty of early games to retain his post.
The Eels are looking at contingency plans - with Flanagan likely to be their top pick if things go pear-shaped.
Flanagan has been in charge at Cronulla since 2010, leading the club to its historic maiden premiership in 2016.
He is unsigned beyond 2019 and probably due for a change after what will be his 10th season next year. And he is a former Eels player.
It’s a long way off being a done deal - but remember where you heard it first.

BINGO!
I can guarantee that Brad Arthur is finished @ Parramatta - we aren't in a position to compete for a title coming towards Brad's 6th, and it's odds on another major cleanout is necessary to once again start another rebuild.
I ask the question to the dwindling numbered unicorns - is there any reason not start negotiations with another coach asap?
For mine, we should have started talks with Flanagan 6 months ago.
Gurr and the Eels board are doing the smart thing by not jeopardising the clubs future to fix possible/likely problems for next season. Not getting rid of players and coaches this season and paying them to play somewhere else or do nothing next season is very smart from a business point of view. Parra haven't made these kind of smart business decisions in a long time and Gurr and the board have my full support.
It will not please many if any of the fans and doesn't please me either, but from a strictly business point of view it is the right move. Norman, Jennings and Moses are all on big money next season and we cannot off load them without paying them to play somewhere else. The Eels are notorious for this kind of behaviour in the past and it has cost us dearly. B.A. is reportedly on 1mil next year and the Eels can't off load him and don't want to pay him to do nothing.
It saddens me to think that the Eels are again going to go through another rebuild process but hopefully at the end of 2019, the club will at the very least be in a very good financial position. For a true rebuild to be done, you need to be able to start with no money big owing and as clean a relatively clean roster.
Hopefully Gurr and the board already have some kind of idea if B.A. is staying or going and if its going, are already making plans for this. I like Flanagan as a coach but there have been some dramas at the Sharks and it seems like some more are coming again. A premiership is what we all want but not at any cost, like losing it because of some drama.
No one is happy with where the Eels are at the moment, but be careful what you wish for because it may not turn out to be what you thought it would be.
I wonder how members will feel if another coach (maybe Flanagan) is signed by the Eels early next season and B.A. takes the Eels to the final next season, possible wins it (I don't think he or the Eels can) and then gets released and the Eels go back to not doing so well for the next few seasons with the new coach?
I am not happy with B.A. or the team at the moment but in saying that, I am not sure that getting rid of everyone, let alone just one or two people is the answer either. It's hard to make good business, non-emotional, decisions at times like this but what is certain is the Eels have under-performed for too long and this absolutely needs to change.
gurr and max should go before brad arthur no wonder gurr wont talk to one eyed eel ,
I agree with your opinion 100% on this matter.
What really interests me though, is the value on the open market when the over priced and under performing players start to look for their next club.
We as Parra fans would have been screaming to sack nearly every coach in the Nrl if they were our coach.
Bellamy, cheated the salary cap and stripped of two premiership. SACK HIM
Flanangan, juiced up his team on illegal performance inhancing drugs. SACK HIM.
Bennet, left to chance a dream found out the grass wasn’t greener. Sound familiar? DONT WANT HIM BACK.
Hassler, stuffed up the salary cap and had to lose players. SACK HIM.
Cleary, lost 3 of the big four didn’t make the semis. SACK HIM.
Paul Green, lost the Grand final than got JT and Scott back doesn’t make the 8. SACK HIM.
Mc Gregor, every year he fails to deliver at the business end. SACK HIM.
We had a bad season last year no doubt about it. BA needs to be on notice but dam if there was a premiership for winging Parra fans would win every year.
cant argue with any of that Brad
Parramatta are just plain stupid. They had the chance to get Wayne Bennett for a few years. He can attract players. You watch all the young players at the broncos leave. Flanagan isn’t the answer, however better than the air head we currently have.
Got to love the idea of letting Bennet see out this year. He will encourage players to move with him. Its for this reason I believe he will move to souths and coach them in 2019.
And you want a bloke that was incharge when the crap hit the fan with the peptides and everything else was going on at the sharks for me no thanks .i would be looking elsewhere
