Eels Leagues Club AGM flies under the radar

In what would normally be a weekslong war of words, posturing and campaigning, the Parramatta Leagues Club AGM flew by under the radar on the weekend.

With the Eels fresh from their Thursday night triumph over the Storm, the Leagues Club AGM was perhaps the only thing that could have put a dampener on the weekend.

However, with the new constitution permitting online and mail-in voting, the AGM went by without a hitch.

Current directors Greg Monaghan and Sue Coleman were re-elected. Monaghan received 989 votes and Coleman netted 836. In third position was former Eels supremo Denis Fitzgerald who managed 448 votes.

Chris Jurd was voted in as the club's newest Life Member.

  • Outstanding.

  • Excellent - a clear message to Ftizgerald as no longer wanted by the members.

  • Congrats to the winners.

A clear message to Fitzgerald, let it go mate, you ARE a great man for what you did for the club in the 70s and 80s, but let it go, we are better off without you on the board. Don't lose the respect of those who still hold some respect for you.

  • And life goes on.

  • Still not many votes, that's still concerning

    • It's a lot more than it used to be but yes still need at least double. Whilst I applaud the online voting, the system is not very intuitive, it's actually very cumbersome.

      • I guess it's a process, like the footy team

  • Awesome not to hear about in the news as a war going on! What does the results mean for Fitzgerald??

    • He has to wait another 12 months for another shot when two more seats are up for re-election. What's important though is that Denis or any other faction can't form tickets to take the entire board en masse, and use ex footy players to front them. Denis has to run on his own reputation, and even if he wins a seat, he is but one of seven board members, and he would have no role with the Eels, as the election was for the Leagues Club board.

      • I think you make. Real valid point , the way the elections are , they can't rely on popular ex players to get in

"Yep I think he will take over from Walker in 27 as our starting 13, has the characteristics of a leader and could end up a vice Captain by then too."
