      • Yehez, are you saying Braith is making it up about Eels waning a long term Manager?

How it seems to me to have played out. Eels were favourites to sign Pezet long term until Broncos stepped in. Before that happened Ryles gave Hawkins permission to sign in the UK. Next minute, Braith tells Ryles that Pezet intends to sign with Broncos from 2027 but is willing to play for the Eels in 2026. Ryles without a backup Half back, reluctantly agrees.

I really want to give Ryles and Co the benefit of the doubt on this, as all decisions previous have worked out. My problem is, I resend the fact Eels are developing Brisbane's next starting half back.

        • This is how I feel it went too.

        • OK if that how it played out, then we'll see Pezet mostly in Cup this coming year.

          • What part of Eels wanted Pezet long term did you miss? They didn't want to sign him long term to play in Reggie's. Just because they wanted him to play 5/8 doesn't mean he wasn't viewed as a Moses replacement.

      • What we 'want' or 'explore' as an 'idea' is one thing. But if you knew Pezet wants to be a 7 (admitted publicly), doesn't want to wait 4 years behind Hughes/Moses (his get-out clauses are public record), why would you table a formal long-term contract? Each to their own I suppose. Baffling logic, just quietly.

  • I do agree the outrage has been ridiculous but our fans are allowed to have questions.

A bad deal is only when you get a player that makes you worse. At worst this is a neutral deal.

    • For example Lewis Dodd lol.

  • Dumb arguments that are trying SO hard to find logic behind what is a clearly poor decision.

    1. They say Pezet won't block the pathways of existing players. Wrong. He will be taking a years worth of 1st Grade experience away from someone. And that someone could be someone who wants to be here for more than 12 months.

    2. They say the reason people are up in arms is because this hasn't been done in 30+ years. Yes, there's also a reason that you don't find dog poo on restaurant menus - because it's a bad idea.

    3. We're not a premiership threat, we are in a rebuild. Being better for 12 months is pointless - we need to build towards being continually better year on year for 3+ years. They say "hypothetically if Parra win the comp next year"...yeah, that hypothetical ain't happening. Premierships are built over years, and this is a build year where we're wasting one of our most important spots on someone who will not be here.

    4. They completely ignore the fact that Ryles chose not to play Dylan Brown for the majority of the season because he was leaving. He chose to sit out a clearly superior player to give our longer term bets experience. And now he's literally paying for someone to backfill Brown who is also leaving at the end of the season.

    5. They then cast doubt over both our juniors AND the Moses/Pezet combo. Both valid points, and both highlighting the absolute stupidity of our R&R staff who have spent the last 8 months since Brown signed at Newcastle stuffing up every opportunity to land an alternative. We have wasted 8 months, and now this Pezet dumb deal gives them latitude to waste ANOTHER 12 months with inaction and failed deals.

    6. The absolute dolt then says "stop whinging and embrace it". Ummm, no? "What do you want?" A club that makes smart, professional, strategic and forward thinking recruitment and retention decisions. A club that gets the people they want like the Storm, the Broncos, the Bulldogs, the Panthers...the teams actually winning games with superior rosters.

I'm not going to apologise for not wanting to accept mediocrity. I said since BEFORE BA was sacked that until we change our R&R staff we will not be able to be a competitive club long term. This has further highlighted how correct that assessment was.

We are a member run club and unless us members whinge when our club makes dumb decisions we will continue to have the longest losing / no premiership streak in the game.

I'd like a premiership before I die, so sue me. 🤷‍♂️

    • You don't think we are better then the dogs, raiders, warriors, sharks and other teams who made the 8 if our full 17 is on the park ? I think we will smoke them 😂😂

      • I don't think we're even remotely close to the Panthers, Broncos & Storm. I think we'd be pretty heavy underdogs against the Sharks, Raiders, Dogs, Warriors and Roosters too.

I don't think we are even close to a premiership with our roster right now. It wouldn't even be in the conversation for 2026, it should be a build year.
