Parramatta have emerged as the leaders in the race for promising 20 year old rake Tallyn Da Silva. There is a chance for Da Silva to leave Concord by Monday for the June 30 cut-off period with the Manly Sea Eagles, Newcastle Knights and North Queensland Cowboys all interested in the Western Suburbs junior. Da Silva met with Jason Ryles earlier in the week. There was talk of a swap deal being presented by the Wests Tigers that would have seen Da Silva go to Newcastle with KPP, Tigers bound in 2026, heading to Wests early. That deal has reportedly fallen through.

All the clubs bar Parramatta that have expressed interest in Da Silva have a coach that is under pressure. Da Silva is considered one of the most promising Hookers to come into the game in a long time, just turning 20 and playing 21 games for the Wests Tigers.

Parramatta being favourites should be no surprise considering our cap space and chance for him to start right away. Manly are the next best option, with manager Mario Tartak having numerous Manly players on the books already including Haumole Olakau'atu, Jason Saab and Nathan Brown. However, Tartak also has Josh Addo-Carr, Matt Doorey and Toni Mataele at Parramatta so the manager connection is just as strong at Parra than Manly.

Manly also have a need for a Hooker immediately with Lachlan Croker, Jake Simpkin and Gordon Chan Kum Tong not meeting the standards to be consistent Hookers for the club. NQ have a hole with Robson leaving but not til 2026 and Newcastle have a hole with Brailey moving to Canberra and Crossland now being seen as a Lock forward.

If Da Silva signs with Parramatta and is granted the chance to join immediately, he will start in Round 19 v Penrith.

              • LB your dismissing my point here what we have to establish round our roster is a competitive edge..Signing of a 20 yr old position regardless should have to compete for a position not just walk into it.

Smith doesn't have to be the future but anyone coming in shouldn't just walk into a job that already has someone established it should always be a competition.

We are trying to lift the floor of this club handing out positions isn't a way to do it especially to a guy that's done absolutely nothing in nrl as a player.Yet JR should just go here you go son your it.Ryley take a seat mate you arent back to the bench you go.Is seriously the way to build a culture and a side that's running at the bottom of the comp.

            • Smiths a genuine 14

          • As per the current Galvin situation, Da Silva would be starting on the bench if he joins us in the next week to ensure no disharmony or any segregation within the current squad. This would be ongoing at first.

If Da Silva proves himself over the final rounds and kills the off season fanfuckingtastic, but Ryles would be insane to start him now.
Da Silva has not made an impression defensively in the minutes he has played this season so he would need to earn his minutes IMO.

Da Silva is attracted to a starting role and at present, until he can prove himself worthy it is not with us.
You just don't pull the pin on Smith, who has shown to be a commodity in line speed intensity and has been defensively sound across his first 14 games. He is only new to FG and his game is still developing. Smith has been tested in the rigours of regular NRL minutes. Da Silva has not.
A big risk to take to offer him a lucrative playing contract and slot him straight into a starting 9 role mid season just because he is touted as a potential future representative without proving himself.
I think this would be against the culture that Ryles would be trying to instil in his playing group.

            • If we get Da Silva now he will start since Smith is suspended. Depending on that will determine if Smith starts or not. Ryles could interchange while Da Silva get adjusted perhaps.

Your last part makes sense but it already goes against it even if he doesn't get him since he is going for Da Silva hard.

Ryles has thrown kids in before. Iongi was thrown in and told to swim. If we get Da Silva now he has Penrith game to show his worth. If we get him next year he has all pre-season.

Da Silva needs to earn his spot but also Smith is there already in the system. If there is any doubt Da Silva wont be able to earn it or is not ready then just stick with Smith and move on.

        • You do realise smith didn't start last game

  • Well it looks like we lost another young player with potential to another club so close to the end. We lost him to a club that is in absolute shambles with their halfback, fullback and coach might not even be their in the future. They have also given up looking for a five-eight as well, probably got to lazy and they want to play someone who is not a natural half and is 5 foot 5. Second rowers will be targeting him all game. Sack MON

    • Joash has played a decent amount of half and is at least 5'9, has a shit tonne of speed and skill and will be on 25% of what Dylboobs is on.

      • He also might only be 25% as effective as Dylan and Dylbro isn't effective as it is right now.
