Eels axe Ferguson

Blake Ferguson's career is at a crossroads with the Parramatta winger set to be dumped this weekend.

The off-contract Ferguson is set to pay the price for Parramatta’s disappointing fortnight and will be axed from the clash against Newcastle on Sunday following back-to-back losses to Manly and South Sydney.

It couldn't have come at a worse time for Ferguson, who was told at the start of the year by the Eels that he would not get a new contract at the club. He still hasn't got a spot secured at a rival club for next year.

  • I guess this answers the question as to whether there will be unforced changes. Looks like the Sterlo spray may have forced some hands here.. Either way it looks like Fergo is out this weekend.

    • The Sterlo spray exhonerated Fergo and put the start of the defensive errors squarely on the inside defenders ie: Jake Arthur, with the numbers being equal his up and hold gave the opposition 5/8 Shuster from Manly or Gody Walker Souths far to much time to position their support runners and then forcing our defenders to become tunnel visioned instead of counting numbers.

Of course JA wasn't the only one at fault but he was certainly an easy target to in Sterlo's words start Ground hog day. JA will learn a lot from his experience in these recent 3 games and will be the better for it in coming years.

      • Seibold gives a pretty good analysis of it in the latest Game Plan segement on NRL.com. He points out where the problem really started, in both the Manly and Souths games: Duos, trios and other attacking shapes trending in 2021 - TV (nrl.com)

        • So without watching it, who is to blame?

          • Dylan Brown alludes to it at the four minute mark here (journo question starts at exactly 4:00): Brown: It has been a long three weeks - Eels (parraeels.com.au)

            • Middle forwards...interesting

                • BA has built his coaching on attitude and chasing the contact. When that fails what's his plan B? He ain't got one.

                    • So what is Plan B is plan A doesn't work? Stop skipping the question.

                    • Without effort (plan A) there can be no plan B. No other coach is any different. The best coaches have the best teams, and the best teams are full of hard workers. That's why Arthur says he's looking for competitors as his first trait in a potential recruit.

                    • Ahhh yes the best coaches.

so what I don't get is if the problem is the middle forwards why has FERGo been dropped and Waqa likely to be dropped?
