  • According to zero tackle and Sydney morning herald"

  • Eels probably want him to replace Joe O next year. I doubt we will resign Joe O with his age and other older forwards being contracted already.

    • I think you're right ea.   Ofehengaue would need to take a massive pay cut to be looked at here. He'll be 30 when his contract is up, so I can't see Ryles signing him.

      • 30 is not old for a prop.

        • It is when most of yr pack is 30+.   That's what matters most.

    • Tbh thought he was one of our better ones last year. Wasn't much before that.

im surprised you think he is almost finished EA.

      • It is not that I think he is almost finished. I think in managing our roster and salary cap, Joe O seems like a player that doesnt fit in the team anymore.

        • Guess will see what he brings this season. Hope he has a good go at it. End of day we need some exp out there in our pack.

never thought so when he first arrived he def was not one of my faves (plus I held a stain against him for one of the grubbiest tackles on one of ours ...Fergo ;) but I reckon there is a perfect opportunity for him to lead out this year. God knows someone's gotta 🤞

          • Joe O should be great this year but as EA said, he could be useful in 2026 but we need to keep repleneshing our squad and him being 30 and contractless and with the likes of Thompson available, then it does not make a lot of sense to resign him unless we release Lane or Matterson instead or a couple of the backups like Greig and Mataele. We'll see anyway.

            • Joe O could be heading into the 5 years of his best football Yehez, you seem to have a problem  with the number 30 like a lot of people on here.

I think Joe is a good solid player, but he is more than capable of progressing further, he stood up well last year and he does not appear to be a forward on burn out. I also detect some leadership in his makeup.

Careful listening to the rhetoric on here, there is not some magic formula being enacted. I notice that Ryles is signing marginal players on 1 year contracts, with the basic message of lets see you do it first! ..... the proof will be in the eating. I like his style and I suspect that age will not be an issue if he wants a player to do a certain job. Don't forget he was a front row forward himself.
