The other problem is he is our best defensive forward by a hundred yards (he is the missing ingredient this year to last year with our defensive patterns) so it makes it hard to be a ball playing lock and our best defensive player....btw I agree Lock is his natural position....the other thing to take into account is when switched to the front row last year, he really came good and met that defensive upgrade we re/acquired. Can we find another Hoppy to go with the original?
Hopgood should be our 13, he can ball play similar to Yeo. But we have some ass forwards and second rowers that mader it hard for him to really transfer that ball across to Moses.
Hopgood's issue was his timing. When to offload and when to run. By the time Ryles dropped him from Lock to Prop he was just throwing needless offloads when not on. If he can get that timing right he can be an Origin quality player again. He is 28 next year, time is on his side to have a comeback year.
Dylan walker has been good for us but prob only has a year or 2 left so has to take money on offer now. He hasn't been as good this year so probably realises waiting till his contract is up may be too late to get decent money in England..
Not sure what we have coming through but Kurt Donohue is a competitor who can play hooker, 5/8 or lock so would be great replacement for Walker and probably get more game time at parra.Â
There are better players around but we can't attract them so need to look at who is being underutilised.
Dolphins have players like Plath playing origin who will want contract upgrades. They also have players like Farnworth, Hammer, Flegler, Finefeuiaki, Lemuelu, Bostock, Cobbo only signed up to 2027 who will need new contracts so can see the dolphins as a club who may release some established players to free up cap space.

Donohue is a good shout out. I think they bought Edwards to be a mitch kenny type. Donohue hits hard for a little fella.
Yep that is a great shout. He is behind JMK and Plath at the 9 and 13 spot. Would be a great player to replace Walker. He would literally be a cheaper version of C Watson. Can covoer 1/6/9/13

Love the Donoghue shout out. Perfect player for that role.
Sure he has had a couple of soft weeks but surprised by this. Our recruiters must be a bit more positive about signing versatile  new blood than I am actually.Â
I am ok with it. Walker has been good this year, though i reckon Paulo is moving towards that role off the bench next year. Walker is 33 next year, he would be looking for a 2 year plus deal. Do we want to offer him that and risk him declining? I would rather either try and use Smith in that role, could take some time, or try and get a younger player to fill that void. Someone like Jazz Tevaga or Erin Clark who can play Hooker as well.
I know he is good and great to keep but he is important for our attack with his organisation but other than that doesn't offer too much. Not a bad player or a liability by any means, but what he would want, going to SL at 33 he will get another 2-3 years out of his career compared to staying in the NRL.

"If you listen to the Paul Kent podcast he lays it out perfectly. The Roosters have 2029 already set with their top 30, give or take a 2-3 spots incase someone comes on the market they want. They have the plan of like say Watson is going, this player…"

We are missing his defence a lot as you have said. Him and Smith together used to clean up a lot of tackles last yearÂ
