Eels playmaker Dylan Brown has given his biggest indication yet that he’ll be staying at the club, while teammate Nathan Brown admits he could be leaving.
Five-eighth Brown has enjoyed the best season of his budding career and will represent New Zealand at the World Cup next month.
The 22-year-old was below his best in their grand final loss to Penrith, but that’s not expected to impact his price tag when he hits the open market on November 1.Brown can next month sign with rival clubs for 2024 and the star No. 6 is expected to attract offers above $800,000 per season.
In the sheds after the loss on Sunday night, Brown initially joked “I’m chasing as much cash as possible” before the jovial No. 6 became reflective on the decision in front of him.
“It’s past money. You get to a point in your career where it’s not about money, you have to look at those things but it gets more than that,” Brown told foxsports.com.au.
“It’s where you’re comfortable, it’s the environment you’re in, to the coaches, to your halves partner is, it’s things like that.Brown has developed significantly since joining Arthur’s side as a raw but talented teenager at the end of 2018.
“I’ve been here my whole career so it’s been massive (for my growth) and that’s props to people like Brad,” Brown said.
“He’s changed so much, I’ve been under him for four years and every single year I learn so much from him and he learns so much from the players.
“I feel like he’s put aside the brave, the tough way of coaching and he’s understanding each players as an individual.
“He still has that tough side but he definitely still understands each player and knows what’s he gets the best through them so props to him.”Eels enforcer Nathan Brown was dramatically selected in the grand final after being left out of first grade for almost three months leading into the game.
The no-nonsense forward attracted plenty of headlines this season and is contracted at the club next year, but admits his future is up in the air.
“That’s part of rugby league I guess, I try not to focus on all that type of stuff, I just wanted to focus on doing my job for the team,” Brown told foxsports.com.au.

I liked that Dylan Brown stayed and watched the Penrith side celebrating after the game. Apparently he was the last eels player back in sheds and said he wanted to feel the pain as it would help drive him to be better and go a step further next year seeing what he missed out on
Joking after a loss. Fantastic. Guess as someone who didn't know who Brett Kenny is he simply doesn't feel the same pain that we do. I guess he wouldn't been nice and fresh with energy for a bit of a joke around.
Or it's just how he is a lot of people use humour as a coping tool.
In the end it's just a game the players would of been hurting but life goes on.
Maybe , I guess time will tell. My fear is that Brown may be another enigma in the mould of a Hayne or to a lesser extent talent wise an EGJ. So full of natural talent , they never learn to really work for any kind of goals. Their whole careers handed to them on a platter.
Brown wouldn't be the first or the last young NRL player to be giggling and arse slapping with the opposition after a loss that's for sure . Some players simply don't feel it like us fans do, they haven't supported these clubs for decades , they'll get paid their 30k a game and at 23 probbably thinks he's got plenty more opportunities to win a GF.
Great news. Class player. Like his use of sarcasm when hs obviously asked about his contract/future - well played.
Time and a place my fine sir , time and a place. After doing his best Beaumont Children impersonation in a GF isn't the time nor the place to be joking about getting paid big bucks . .
What I really like about you Wiz is that you never let any facts get in the way of something to embellish!
You should Wiz up to the Goldie and give your mate a hand, he is pretty good with the million dollar players!
Can't agree my man, I reckon a bit of sarcasm right in the middle of a shit storm is perfect timing.
I like blokes with a bit of swagger, and I also like the bit about how he hung around on ground and was last man back to the sheds. I reckon Dylbros might just be a future leader of club and country - there's one for the books.
BA rates him, Dan Anderson rates him, it appears Bellyache rates him - - that's good enough for me mate. I'm a fan :)
Agree Kram, sure its not the best timing, but that seems to just be his personality. The jokes around chasing dollars is purely due to him copping a bit in the media about previous comments in that area.
He stayed on & watched the Panthers to feel the pain as you & others pointed out, thats great to hear for us fans.
More importantly than a throw-away joke is DB needs to find ways into games that are going against him / us, but winning a Prelim Final & losing a Grand Final will do wonders for his development & maturity.
As you said, Bellyache is keen on him if they lose Munster, that should be enough for most to realise he is rated by better talent scouts than we are on here. 2023 is massive for Dylan because he will be on bigger money & after a breakout year there will be a lot of added pressure.
Backing him to go to another level, especially after the World Cup experience (if he can play well there).
Was Dylan Brown playing in the GF? you wouldn't have known ... oh yeah but he is about to get major overs when he 're-signs'
