For a kid that's just turning 20 playing in one of the most demading positions in the game, he's crossed over the try line 8 times in 19 NRL games. He's one of the most prolific 5/8's in the competition.

He's not only tuned on offensively but possesses Cameron Smith smarts. I'm referring to an instant vs Manly when Cherry - Evans broke through our defensive line during the 1st half. Dylan was getting back and was offside, he picked up that DCE was right behind him and he basically got into his way by ever so slightly changing direction as to impede his run without being punished by the ref and it worked. DCE got frustrated and threw a wayward pass and Manly lost possession knocking on. The kid has football intelligence of the greatest kind.

    • Cheers, Pops!

I'm actually happy he's a NZer because that means Oz won't have it easy. I love a competitive NZ. Full respect to the players who chose to represent Tonga. It makes the international game much more interesting. I hate it when players switch international allegiences to play for Australia because of the $$$.

In regards to the Blues. I think we're sitting nicely and currently have better players and greater depth than the cane toads. We have the best player in the world in Tedesco and that'll do me.

Mitch Moses is my favorite Eels player but whenever Dylan gets the ball in his hands I PAY ATTENTION. He puts me on the edge of my seat. He's possesses something "Hayne-esque". He has a way to mesmerise defence and he's only shown some samples. Once he's fully out of his shell, opposition players will wish they'd never been born.

I rate Ponga. LM, not so much. He lacks football intelligence. I never think he'll have the fitness to be a great fullback. I'd rather have Gutho any given day because he does so many more things and has a great motor.

      • I’d be surprised if the opposition wished they hadn’t been born. Do you really think he’ll cause their lives that much suffering? So not only do they want to be dead, they will wish they’d never experienced life in the first place. He’s a good player but those kinds of feelings I suspect are usually experienced by those being tortured somehow either physically or emotionally, and probably over a sustained period of time. It’s still just a game of footy and most, if not all players can separate the highs and lows that come with playing footy and the kind of torture you describe here. A living hell.  Dunno.

  • Definitely a talent, how his halfs relationship with Mitchell will progress, will be interesting.

  • I agree he has a great instinct.  Initially thought he should be the dominant half and Moses the 5/8. But Moses's game management has improved beyond expectations presumably with Joey's guidance and being the 5/8 for 3 years or so is probable good for Dylan. He is too young to lead a side around and should be concentrating on the other aspects of his game- remember what happened to Ash Taylor

  • On the Kenny comparison - a couple of runs he had in that Broncos game reminded so much of Brett Kenny with the way he tried to beat tackles.

  • DB has a great maturity with the way he plays. While I see the comparisons to Brett Kenny, I think he plays a little more like Andrew Johns which isn't that surprising when Brown has said he watches tapes of Johns and Joey is coaching him. He's very direct and his first instinct is to run. He doesn't force passes and he'll take a whack if it means we hold onto the ball. He's also not afraid to try something different and his defence is impressive for a player of his age.

    • I compare him more to Geoff Toovey, defensively very similar . As Toovey got older and stronger he picked blokes up with his leg drive and sat them on their rear but early on the way they both  defend is uncanny.

Attack again very similar, although Toovey had a little more energy around the ruck . Both very tough , here's hoping Brown learns to be as creative as Toovey halves partner .

  • The thing that has impressed me the most about him is his defence. The kid hardly misses a tackle. In fact his inclusion plus the improvement in Moses defence is a big reason why we are such a formidable defensive team now. When your halves can tackle it really helps. His attack is still developing but will be outstanding. He needs to play the short ball more often.

    • Sterlo always says that if a halfback is confident in his defence, the other aspects of his game just flow from that.
