The Daily Telegraph broke reports that Parramatta five-eighth Dylan Brown has been charged with five counts of sexual touching without consent after an alleged incident at a Double Bay hotel on Saturday night.

Brown, one of the highest profile players at the Eels, was the subject of a complaint to staff at the Golden Sheaf pub late on Saturday night.

NSW Police confirmed that Brown is due to answer the charges at the Downing Centre Local Court this week.

“About 11.40 pm yesterday, officers attached to Eastern Suburbs PAC were called to a hotel on South Head Rd at Double Bay following a report of sexual touching,” a police statement read.

Police arrested a 22-year-old man. He was taken to Waverley Police Station where he has been charged with sexually touching another person without consent.

“He was granted bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday, June 7.”

News Corp reports police will allege Brown did not previously know the woman, and will allege he groped her multiple times.

The Daily Telegraph also reports that police took out an interim apprehended violence order (AVO), while Brown must report to police on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday under the terms of his bail.

The Eels have had the bye this weekend and play the Bulldogs next Monday afternoon.

The Eels' club has made a public statement (Sunday, 4 June at 11:55 am).

“The Parramatta Eels have been made aware of an incident involving Dylan Brown last night."

“The Club has advised the NRL integrity unit as per our normal process."

“As it is a police matter, the Club will not be making further comment at this time.”

What will happen to Dylan?

We don't yet know what the final charges may be prior to next week's court hearing. It's possible charges may be amended once senior police figures review the case in more depth.

Futher to that, although the charges, as yet, don't meet the no fault stand down 11-year maximum sentence (Dylan's charges are a maximum of 5 years), there's every possibility the NRL could stand Brown down on discretionary grounds which effectively could end Brown's 2023 season and beyond, pending court proceedings. A long-term out.

Alternatively, the NRL could suspend Brown for a few weeks which would have some precedence (in cases such as Mitchell Peace).

Either way, next week's hearing will reveal the next chapter but not the ending of how this sorry saga will unfold.

NRL head Peter V'landys and CEO Andrew Abdo have some immediate decisions to make.

The NRL having been proactively bringing women onside for decades since the Tina Turner times; making the game more women friendly and developing the women's game.

They'll be under enormous moral, public and political pressure to do something, and quickly - before Brown resumes his playing career.

It's really the last thing the Eels' club needed in the middle of an injury crisis, and their recent resurgence (now sitting in 10th place) in the race for a finals berth for five-straight years. Also, next week (R15 versus the Dogs) sees coach Brad Arthur reach an important milestone as the Eels' longest-serving coach. One Brown appears destined to miss.

    • There goes the season

      • There should be no bye rounds or week off for footy players. They are too dumb. The week off is NOT mad Monday you idiots !!

  • So JA slots straight in 😂 🤒 - ooops hang on 🫢

    • So seriously if this is true - Sexual Touching in NSW has a maximum penalty of 5 years if its an adult victim. NRL standown policy is a serious offence that has a penalty of 11 years or more.

So he wont be stood down by the NRL !   However what implications does it have on his psyche  therefore his form and attention for the rest of the season.

A charge like this is normally more minor in nature " law wise" and is used before a sexual assult charge. It just has to be shown that the offender touched the person  without there consent with any part of their body or used something else to do the same, and the touching was sexual.

      DUMB ASS if true.

      • what's the usual punishment for the this crime? I wonder what DB will plea. Sounds like really anything can be classified as a sexual touch and I'm sure someone could have seen it. so unless DB can prove he had consent, it will be hard.
I have horrible law knowledge so if I am wrong please correct me

        • EA more times then not a fine in local court by a Magistrate. AVO orders not to go near that person etc.

It also has to be proved that it was of a sexual nature.

          • Ohk well hopefully he is innocent but if he is guilty, fk he deserves a punch to the head. Why can't people realise that it's not acceptable and learn from experiences from other nrl players especially.

            • this agree. A big NRL contract perhaps should come with a training program on not falling into the trap that everyone  thinks your a superstar and you can act in difference to others. There is always someone to bring you down should you stuff up, sometimes even  when you dont.

          • True BE, who knows could've been on the dance floor and got close and touched her? Not saying it is right but could have been that.

Or could be he grabbed her as she walked past, etc.

Is there any similarities to the Sivo incident a few years back?
