JC, if that was Jack Cogger do you think that would have been a send off? Find unlikely.
They need to eradicate this type of tackle from the game, sin binning players isn't working.
Forget about all the woo haa if it was that player or that player or what punishment was handed out to earlier tackles, more should be send offs.
If you want every hip-drop to be a send-off, fair enough, at least that's consistent, i have no issues if the NRL comes out and draws a line on saying they should be send offs now. But we both know that's not what's going to happen. Next week someone will pull off the exact same technique, the player will be hurt or hop back up, and it'll be 10 in the bin or just a penalty. That’s why you can't just 'forget about the woo-haa' consistency is the whole point of officiating.

Iongi ankle injury to a hip drop sin bin.
Crosslands was a text book hip drop it was ugly but if the others aren't send offs then neither was his.
If we are putting seriousness of injury, then Hopgood's should have been send off since Hopgood was out for the year.
So yeah it was not good, but no hip drops are.
Surely the seriousness is assessed at the judiciary when the player fronts, not from a diagnosis made by a ref or bunker official.
Note that speculations about intent are pointless. Hip drop tackles do not require intent. Penalties are outcome based. Hence, again, we have same outcome in Simmonson and Cleary cases but for Cleary the world has ended and the player had to be sent off but for Simmonson ho hum 10 mins in bin for offending player
I'm sure it was a coincidence that the ref then tried to disallow a fair try to Knights.
That should not have been a send off in my opinion. Cleary was already injured before starting this match and thats obvious by him not starting the game. To send the Knights player off on the basis the tackle caused a major injury is incorrect! Clearly was already injured and should not have even played becuase the risk of further injury is 100% more likely in every single tackle! The Penrith side should be responsible for breaking duty of care to their player! The chance of Knights winning now with 1 player less is highly unlikely but of closures the NRL can't have their 2 big favourite babies miss out on a Grand Final appearance. So they ensure they breast fed with the biggest sucker next week named the champions! Total farce
