I'm sure Gordon Talis will say Obrein could've won this year just like he did with Walters to save his stupid pride lol. He wasn't an owner then but he was instrumental in Holbrooks sacking and even went on local radio up there stating that Des was the way forward and Holbrook couldn't win a premiership . If he does , will anyone dare replay the snippet ? Doubt it.
I guarantee it won't be played on the Matty Johns show . It's quite hypocritical how they will take the piss out of everyone on that show , but have not once dared say anything about the Titans sacking Holbrook to Matty or Gordon.
Seeing Newy go all the way pisses me off about how poorly this Parramatta club is run. They go from Spooners on the verge of being Premiership. Watching it in full speed the momentum put him in an awkward position. He didn't grab, reposition and drop on to his back of the legs, it was all in a relatively fluid motion. . His feet actually were always on the ground. Unfortunate tackle but not malous or deliberate so I thought 10 in the bin would have been sufficient

The referee was clearly horrified by the injury, which no doubt led to the send off. Regardless of names however, we can't have a sport where we accept serious injuries like this as part of the game. Players being bent over so that the body gives way and breaks is not where we want the game to be, surely! I don't know the answer, but the NRL needs to get the clubs together to decide a way forward that works, and clubs need to commit to keeping safety paramount. It's a tough sport, yes, but there are ways to tackle that don't leave multiple players in hospital every season.
I agree, but also lower leg injuries are inevitable with league. And if a part of you has to take force/impact and break, it's probably the best part of you to break (no vital organs in your leg).
It's distressing to watch, but it's pretty uncommon. Hip drops happen all the time and we very rarely see bones sticking out. The only way to make the sport safe is to stop playing it altogether. Fast, contact sport is dangerous by design. And even the safest tackling technique isn't going to be 100% when you have fatigued players who are flogged within an inch of their life and programmed to win, win, win with tens of thousands of fans screaming at them.
Injuries happen, it sucks and was horrid to watch. But do that same tackle a heap more times and nothing happens. It was bad luck more than anything.
It's a contact sport. Shit will happen. The real distinction that is important is between dangerous, reckless, negligent and incidental. At worst, Cleary's tackle was between negligent and incidental. The fact he was seriously injured is the incidental part and there was some hip drop, which was negligent but not self-evidently reckless. One tackler was dragging him down and the other pushing him back due to proximity of the line. Equals shit happened.
What we have in the Cleary case is moral panic about a golden child. Every time Moses gets clanked in a game the commentators immediately declare he is milking it. Cleary gets clanked and it's a moral failure of humanity.
It's unfortunate his leg was broken. It didn't demand a send off. But the standard has now been set: outcome matters.

But seriously, big games and big players get big decisions. It's definitely double standards, but it's always been that way.

When Cleary ran through Savala's kicking leg in an earlier final, all the commentary was NOT about reckless behavioir endangering Savala, but excuse making about how Cleary was aiming to charge down and we should all understand players will try to charge down.
When Moses had his kicking leg taken out kicking a winning field goal versus Cowboys, the conversation was about Moses milking it, suck it up etc.
So there is self-evidently a double standard for golden children and the solution is obviously Captain's suggestion for the Eels to be good enough to have commentators want to salivate about them and make excuses for them. 😁
