Jerome Luai has a week to seal the deal at the Chief's, 2 million per season tax free. He'll take it . He'll become the richest player in the league by the length of tge straight.   D Brown would be earning 650 k after tax.

He'll become a free agent for 2027 - a gap.year essentially.

Should the club take Luai for a season, thus giving Lorenzo Talititiana another year to prepare.

Its looking more like Lorenzo is the man. Joash has played mainly fb in both cup and Nrl so it looks as if Ryles not pinning his hopes on him.

Would you take Luai??

  • Thats assuming

    a) we have cap space to afford his asking price which would theoretically be high, even for a gap year

    b) he would want to come to Parra

    • Don't know why MoN and Ryles aren't looking at Harris-Tavita. He's still not signed for next year. He would compliment Moses well.

      • Harris-tavita is in talks with the cowboys

  • He won't be offered $2 million tax free. They're saying he'd have to earn $2.2m in Australia to be equivalent to $1.2m tax free in PNG.

They aren't going to pay him more (or much more) than his current contract, it's just that he won't have to pay tax on it (and that in and of itself will still have a LOT of caveats attached to it - but that's the narrative as to why he'd even consider this).

But yeah, no one is paying Luai $2m/year...there's just a lot of people reading the news who don't grasp the whole "equivalent salary including tax" thing.

  • No. We cannot keep changing our spine every year. We need to build consistency in our spine. We blood Lorenzo in the 6 around rd 15 when our injured players come back.

    • Yes. Volkman and Pezet can form a killer NSW cup partnership that wins us NSW cup haha.

      • NSW cup would have a very strong team by the end of the year if we get some luck with injuries. Lots of players have had to step up in NRL so they will come back better players, and even the younger/JF players have had to play bigger minutes or step up in Cup which will help. Obviously more injuries will happen so it will never be full strength.

Then you have Beattie, Talagi, Petrus, Koina, Popo, Bamblett, Leulai, Vaiveia, Miller, Alamdine and Fletcher in JF waiting to step up when the opportunity arises.

        • Like Lokeni goes onto the bench after running 200m and making 38 tackles with 0 mised on the weekend. Look at the talent in those JF players.

        • That's really quite stong indeed. We have to be losing a couple of those youngsters, especially the ones at 21-22 years old range in the off-season. Which is a shame.

Latu just confirmed ACL no? Heard it somehwere.

Also where do you see Richie settling baring injuries? I thought he'd play next to Nanva but seeing cup highlights he was right wing. If he gets a run there surely he'll be inline for NRL?
