Do AC/DC regard themselves as Australian or Scottish?

Without a doubt Australia's greatest music band, but Bon, Angus and Malcolm were born in Scotland and Brian Johnson England. Bon and the Young brothers grew up in Australia, but when they played in Glasgow Scotland 1978 on the Powerage tour was it a coming home? This blog is no big deal, maybe just a technicality, but what do you think?

  • Id have to say Aussie slip, they grew up her, got famous here, regarded as the biggest Aussie rock band ever. Sure they roots over there, and don't live here anymore, but they're Aussie for mine. Good blog, better than that fukn koala...
    • Thanks Tentonz. I'm watching AC/DC in concert right now with Bon and was just wondering where their loyalty / heart might be? It was so funny when they were here the last time and when Brian Johnson was talking, subtitles came up on the TV. Lol
    • Bon is a million times better than Brian
  • I agree. Bon was a legend. Terrible he died in 1980. Google street search has taken away his death site. Lol
  • I'd reckon they'd call themselves an Oz rock band. Current lineup is Scottish (2), English (2) and good ole Phil representing Down Under. Band was formed down under - that's important.

Mal and Angus were only 10 and 8 when they moved out here... they were raised Aussie. We'll claim 'em.

Oh yeah - agree re: singers - Brian is a mere shadow of Bon...

  • Samoan.

  • I'm watching AC/DC live in Holland 1979 and some bearded guy announcer says in a foreign language all the way from "Australia", AC/DC. He was wearing denim shorts. Lol
  • Australian with a Scottish background. My pet hate are people who live in Australia, are a citizen of Australia, spent the majority of their life's in Australia and enjoying all the benefits of being an Australian, yet regard their nationality as their background.
  • AC/DC power points are only found in Aus. The Poms use methane power.
  • Correct if I'm wrong but didn't the Young brothers go to Ashfield boys high? Bon Scott is burried at Rookwood cemetary. I'd say Aussie for sure. I watched them live in 87 and I swear my left ear drum has never been the same since but awesome band live.

Give Ryles another 8 months of developing his systems with the side and I'd expect us to be going into 2026 a lot further along then we went into 2025. That might give you the opportunity to ease…"
