Penrith has got some explaining to do with a viral video appearing to catch a veteran trainer red-handed during the Panthers’ golden point thriller against the Cowboys.

The 30-30 draw was full of controversy as both clubs butchered field goal attempts in extra time at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville on Saturday night.

It appears the most controversial moment of all has only been revealed after the match with amateur sideline footage appearing to show Panthers trainer Shane Elford spraying the ball with liquid from a water bottle before the opening period of golden point.

The viral clip showed the Steeden was left dripping wet after Elford had twice sprayed the ball before handing it to fullback Dylan Edwards to kick-off

“He did it before every kick-off,” Payten said.

“We noticed it in the (coaching) box. I will let the NRL handle it. I don’t know what they’re going to do but it was noticeable to us, definitely.

“I don’t want to say anymore.”

At one point of the viral clip, Elford is seen spraying the ball while talking to hooker Mitch Kenny with other players standing nearby as he committed the act.

            • Mitchy Moses on 100% Footy last night said he'd learned more under Ryles in the last 7 months than he learned in the last decade,  Tough look for the Rhinos coach.

              • I think you'll find MM got a big part of his learning from Andrew Webster  when he was at the Tigers. What else is he going to say about JR he's a bum and couldn't coach worth a damn.Every coach has there strengths I mean at different points in time both our halves had Andrew Johns and Trent Barrett in the building so are you saying these guys had no effect also.

                Classic your a farken joker.

                • Aw, that does that mean Coryn is keeping his ba poster hung above his little bed. Oh well he most probably used araldite as the adhesive....

                  • Unlike yourself I don't have to act like a child and pretend to think everything wrong is on the old coach.Don't worry though when JR has what he wants and it the results don't occur it's a rinse wash repeat from you.

Your just a pigeon who chirps the same tune.

BAs gone but the guys that extended and rehired him are still here if you can't work it out you can't work it out.

  • Think Smith Warner and Bancroft  - same cheating bs tampering to gain advantage.

  • It's not the first time they've cheated and got away with it. Their first premiership during their 4 peat was riddled with cheating actually against the Eels in the finals series when their trainer stopped the game illegally when the Eels were 5 metres out from the Penrith try line with a full set of 6 tackles. It was obvious the Eels were going to score and win the game but the trainer illegally stopped the game. Should never have won 3 in row let alone 4. Rigged

    • Can't remember Annersley's response to the reffing robbery in this one...must've put it the bs section of brain matter. Disgusting cheats!
