Makahesi Makatoa
Brad Arthur’s side is one of the most settled in the competition. But should injuries pop up — or players get plucked for Origin — Arthur may consider one very impressive players in his NSW Cup side. Keep an eye out for 18-year-old Will Penisini who has got big raps on him — Joseph Suaalii type raps — but he’s a Top 30 player so doesn’t qualify for this list. Also keep an eye out for NSW Cup veteran, 114-gamer Makahesi Makatoa who is knocking on the door of an NRL debut. He’s spent time at the Bulldogs and Raiders — as well as a stint in the UK. But this seems like it could be his year. The 28-year-old is more than ready for a debut and has been outstanding in reserve grade this season. The 183cm, 106kg prop averages 171 run metres a game and is third in the competition with total run metres — he’s the only forward in the top five. Makatoa also leads the competition in post-contact metres but all that work in attack doesn’t impact his defensive efforts with an impressive 92.9% tackle efficiency.

I thought he'd debut when at Raiders but for some reason they sold him instead, have watched a couple of his games and he is pretty solid, could have the same impact as Andrew Davey did?
Origin and injuries is his best chance. As is Jordan Rankin.
Hollis ?
Still no word on Hughes?
Watched him in a couple of games and has alternated between prop and lock, very strong runner and good defender.
The aspect now with the prospect of clubs being able to pick players outside the top 30 opens up opporthunities for other players to be given a chance in the NRL. Makatoa is one that I would like to see given a run at some point. Not sure he's in the same league as Papa but maybe not far behind him either, would make a nice option for a bench spot.
It wouldn't be a bad thing if he got a run our NSW cup team is well balanced with up and comers and journey men types.
I have a few reserve grade games and this bloke impressed each time. Strong runner, defends well, often leading the line speed and always busy. Plays big minutes too for a front-rower. Can't believe he hasn't played first grade somewhere at some stage. He is their forward leader.
Agree with Offside about Rodwell he always gives his all, has good footwork, size and is aggressive.
Dale and Brissyeel are spot on with Penisini what I've seen him he is not going to be in first grade anytime soon. Not big/strong enough. Defence is ordinary.
He's a good player and be good value in the top 30
We only have 29 positions filled at the moment because of the departure of Michael Jennings that includes Jacob Arthur being added, He would be the perfect player to come in for the last available spot in the top 30.
EP, clubs can now pick players outside the top 30, was announced by NRL following last round,
Makatoa would go alright in first grade, big lad with big motor, I also think Ky Rodwell would handle FG, good player and aggressive, Penisini is certainly 12 mths off FG.
