Explosive courtroom documents obtained by The Sydney Morning Herald has revealed that the Melbourne Storm asked the NRL to "apply the blow torch" to Parramatta to release Zac Lomax.
A slew of documents released in the Supreme Court revealed that during a phone call between Storm chair Matt Tripp and Eels supremo Matthew Beach on January 13, that the Eels again rejected a $200,000 release fee.
“During the telephone call, Mr Tripp referred to the possibility of punitive steps being taken by the NRL against Parramatta Eels in relation to its salary cap if Parramatta Eels did not agree to the proposal being put forward by the Melbourne Storm,” according to a document the Eels tendered to the court.
“This assertion by the Melbourne Storm was intended or had the tendency to exert pressure on the Parramatta Eels in circumstances where the NRL had never communicated such a stance to the Parramatta Eels.”
It was further revealed that an alleged text from Storm CEO Justin Rodski to NRL CEO Andrew Abdo on January 21 was used to try and have the NRL pressure the Eels into a release.
“Hi Andrew, not getting anywhere at this point, can you apply the blow torch on parramatta [sic] to get this done.
Rodski added: “Lomax staying in the NRL is obviously a win for the game.”
It's what we always suspected. The Storm trying to bully their way into a deal that would favour them. They should be expelled from the competition.

Yep it's the whistleblowers !!!
but mb there was no one brave enough in this instance and we had to have legal proceedings for something to be uncovered by legal minds in the process of uncovering evidence
I guess the result is the same except we may be held accountable as it's the clubs counsel as opposed to an independent whistleblower or journalist
and that may be bad for us
Yeah it will be if abdo and vlandys aren't checked by ARL, but argh well we can't have it both ways. We either sit on our butts and whine about the unfairness or we fight! Im for the whats fair vibe and whats right in this. This one is ultimately us vs Lomax storm and also nrl as they all are too obviously acting disgusting n unfair!
it's hard as I so love footy and our eels but they can stick it if they go any further down the shithouse route as per what storm's Tripp and other bloke were inferring tbh it's too much and that's just not what sport is meant to be about mega grubs!
I'm curious as to what the documents were pertaining to the phone call between Tripp and Beech.
adam it sounds like a stat dec / statement made by Beech about the phone call and the content of that call. would be my guess.
That's what I was thinking as well, a stat dec isn't the strongest position to be in but with privacy laws that's probably all we've got.
I expect the Eels to get a lot of unfavourable decisions from the bunker, judiciary and refs this year in retaliation for bringing this to light.
Yep me too
or we get given a premiership if it goes away
no in between
Elvis, i thin in the end we will have earned some much needed respect bhy this group. Don't mess with us
One bloke has an idea:
And just when we think the game has shown it all.....You have to tip your hats at the Parra leadership here; we are not going to be pissed on. I also feel the other clubs (particularly Sydney ones) will be in full support here.
Melb do not want this in court and they are a club who have had a fair bit of dirt in their time.
To those who say the NRL will have it in for us; lets see as I see it leading to more respect shown. Many of us have felt the NRL favours the 'bigger' teams - well this could be the tipping point the game needs.
Lets not forget the lengths Melb went to in their salary cap cheating.....beyond frigin belief and the media or most still held up Slater / Smith and co as legends of the game. And who was coach? I respect Bellamy for his coaching but you cannot tell me he had NFI on this stuff.
