CONFIRMED: Storm asked NRL to bully Eels into Lomax deal

Explosive courtroom documents obtained by The Sydney Morning Herald has revealed that the Melbourne Storm asked the NRL to "apply the blow torch" to Parramatta to release Zac Lomax.

A slew of documents released in the Supreme Court revealed that during a phone call between Storm chair Matt Tripp and Eels supremo Matthew Beach on January 13, that the Eels again rejected a $200,000 release fee.

“During the telephone call, Mr Tripp referred to the possibility of punitive steps being taken by the NRL against Parramatta Eels in relation to its salary cap if Parramatta Eels did not agree to the proposal being put forward by the Melbourne Storm,” according to a document the Eels tendered to the court.

“This assertion by the Melbourne Storm was intended or had the tendency to exert pressure on the Parramatta Eels in circumstances where the NRL had never communicated such a stance to the Parramatta Eels.”

It was further revealed that an alleged text from Storm CEO Justin Rodski to NRL CEO Andrew Abdo on January 21 was used to try and have the NRL pressure the Eels into a release.

“Hi Andrew, not getting anywhere at this point, can you apply the blow torch on parramatta [sic] to get this done.

Rodski added: “Lomax staying in the NRL is obviously a win for the game.”

It's what we always suspected. The Storm trying to bully their way into a deal that would favour them. They should be expelled from the competition.

    • But here is the thing HKF, as I mentioned before, the fans will leave the game. Majority of fans are backing us and can tell if we will be dudded. Now this can happen as we know now of corruption but fans will work out what's going on if we get bad calls. They will be watching us closer and for once supporting us.

    • 3 of those 4 things have been happening to us for quite a while already, so we really can't be much worse off...

  • The Fox's have been running the Henhouse. ..but we now have 3 Marremma Gaurdians in Beach, Sarantinos and Moses sc...and they don't tolerate foxes, regardless of whether they run the place or not.

If we come out firing on the field, the solidarity this creates will be given credit for part of it.

I think this feeling is Parra Pride. We are the good guys here

  • Matt Tripp in a phone call apparently said we should face salary cap penalties for not releasing Lomax

So they are running the game by saying to their boss what should happen with discipline.

    Are they for real?

  • I wonder if there are replies to the message, and they are in agreeance to the request, does Abdo get brought in and maybe resigns out of it. Rumours have been swirling for a while he had one eye on another job in a few years time going for interviews. He could just leave from this before his name is tarnished

V'Landys is a harder person to get as he is a great negotiator and can and has gotten out of things before.

    • Maybe the end result will be the NRL knows that they cannot get away with this nonsense favouritism and eyes are watching and taking note .....if this is the minimum result we get re : the estsblishment , it's been well worth it

they have been operating as an uneven playing field for too long .
Having an experienced SC like Moses perhaps he will suggest corruption ....will that benefit us ??

Will we be the Erin brokovich of the league perhaps ?????

  • Also appears that Vlandys is also on the nose with parts of the racing community.

  • I've always wanted a Kate mc clymont type expose on the NRL and the uneven playing field

mb Arthur Moses will do it all on his own !!!!!

  • I'm curious as to what the documents were pertaining to the phone call between Tripp and Beech.

  • I expect the Eels to get a lot of unfavourable decisions from the bunker, judiciary and refs this year in retaliation for bringing this to light.

"Pops, some realistic points.
The PR optics are disastrous, yet the wider transcript is missing. Without that we’re inferring and guessing what the NRL actually said in reply to the Storm.
Still, HQ, PLV, Abdo, the Storm heads, broadcasters and key…"
