Club Statement: Leadership Update

The Parramatta Eels today confirm a change in the club’s football leadership structure, with Mark O’Neill departing his role as Head of Football, effective immediately.

We thank Mark for his service and commitment during his time at the club. His efforts have contributed to important developments both on and off the field, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

The club is pleased to announce the appointment of Shane Richardson as Head of Football. Shane brings a wealth of experience across the NRL landscape, with a proven track record in driving high-performance programs, strong club culture, and sustained success.

This appointment reflects the club’s clear focus on accountability, high standards, and delivering consistent results for our members and fans. Shane will commence in the role immediately and will work closely with players, coaches, and staff to strengthen the football program and position the club for long-term success.

The Parramatta Eels remain committed to building a premiership-winning organisation and delivering performances our supporters can be proud of.

Further updates will be provided in due course.

        • haha, i think Ryan Matterson may live rent free in my mind.

          • Don't start me on Matterson.  Sure he's had his head knock dramas, but O'neill and the club totally assed up the length of his contract

  • April 1 (say no more)

  • Being April 1 I'd love the Eels to come out with a statement that Ryan Matterson has retired effective immediately, freeing up $700k in salary cap monies. Ryan is thought of so highly at the club, that he has agreed to take up a newly created position within the gameday team for a record $700k salary. His duties include gardening leave.

    • I wonder what Ryan is doing with himself lately.

      • How long does it take to count $700k in $5notes.

        • He does have a wedding to pay for soon. Eloping would suit.

  • Its a miracle a clown like o'neill is still running the football department  - absolutely incredible.   They squarely put all the blaim on Brad Arthur and claimed immunity for all the contractual stuff ups and lack of foresight.

You can bet that this will again happen ( with Ryles), when the media starts putting pressure on the club on its results.

The board and super dope Sarantinos needs to make a decision right now.  Haven't they seen enough??

The fans have fallen for the clubs spin that its all down to the coach to run recruitment the way he sees it. Its total bs.   The next scapegoat  =  Ryles. Wake up everyone
