PARRAMATTA skipper Nathan Caylesshas decided to retire from rugby league at the end of this season, withan announcement expected as soon as this afternoon.
Having just led Parramatta for the 200th time last weekend, the Kiwi warhorse this week told friends 2010 would be his swansong season.
Cayless’s place in the starting front row has been under the microscope during Parramatta’s below-par opening month and there have been calls for coach Daniel Anderson to bench him and hand the captaincy to fellow Eels veteran Nathan Hindmarsh.
The 32-year-old, however, has the support of his teammates and was again named in the top 13 for Monday night’s clash against Canberra.
Cayless’s manager Wayne Beavis was unable to confirm whether an announcement would be made today, but sources inside the club told The Daily Telegraph that Cayless had made up his mind.

I wonder if the boys will pull their finger out and win one for him.
I would love to see the club send him out with a GF win I know its early days in the season but on current form I don’t know if we will be in the mix. At least Cayless got to lift a trophy with the kiwis last year.
PS… Please don’t bag the guy in this blog… Go to the trash blogs if you must have a whinge.
All I can do is echo your sentiments. At these this might provide an extra incentive for the boys to go all the way.
He has had an absolutely amazing career. He has always lead our team with courage, determination and set an example for our younger players - he truly is an inspirational captain.
I will definitely miss our Courageous Captain Caylo.
