Canterbury hooker Reed Mahoney has agreed to a long-term deal to join the North Queensland Cowboys from next season.
Mahoney will see out the year at the Bulldogs before joining the Cowboys in 2026. The Bulldogs have agreed to release Mahoney from the final year of his contract after giving him permission to test the market a couple of months ago.
The Cowboys showed interest in Tallyn Da Silva and Broncos hooker Cory Paix. They have been in negotiations with Mahoney for a couple of months and this week landed his services.

If Gus wanted him, I have zero doubt he'd be there . But Gus obviously has someone else in mind hence why he told Weed to tell his story walking.
How embarrassing for Weed, carries on like he's some Bulldogs " Dogs of War " " Family Club " life member with all his niggle bullshit the last couple of seasons, and then gets chucked out on his silly looking ears as soon as they find a bit of success.

I've got to ask. Why are the Bulldogs releasing Mahoney. He is one of their best each week, I'm confused. Is it solely Salary Cap in effect.
Reed is a cautionary tail for any young footballer that is willing to buy into Gould's promises. He was given the captaincy as an incentive to join the Dogs only to be stripped of it a year later when Crichton was given it ( more than likely promised it just as Reed was) and now is free to go a year before his contract ended.
Mahoney isn't the first player Gus has fallen in and out of love like this and he certainly won't be the last.

And this! Agreed here; Reed bought into the Dogs of war crap and good luck to him - but he's been used here for me and I'm not a big fan. Sexton too. But hey it's Canterbury so who gives a kebab.
