No, if he's not playing in the NRL his contract is void, but he can return to the NRL and start playing for us under his previous contract.
So, if he does turn around and say, well if Storm and Eels can't agree, I might as well come back to the Eels and get paid, we'll need to have money in our cap and fulfil his contract, or release him. It's like a big game of chicken.

I don't think we are at all obligated to take him back. We have released him from the contract under the stipulation that he doesn't play for another NRL team, unless we agree, until his old contract time is expired. He can ask for us to take him back but we would also need to agree to that and have necessary cap $ available.
He is free to join any other competition be it ESL, Super Rugby, Japanese Rugby, French Rugby, UFC whatever just not NRL.

From what I read, neither party is wanting a reunion. Lets face it, we tried him at centre and he had some issues defensively there so was moved back to the wing. Flannagan was right. Ryles doesn't want to pay a winger centre money, and someone who isn't all in either.
Lomax signed with Parra before he had that breakout year at Saints. So he obviously felt he was getting paid unders I guess and wanted more bucks. Love him as a player, but as a bloke, he's been a complete dickhead.
"Yep exactly LB. Ryles is calling the shots here. It's comforting knowing that the club is backing his decisions. We would not be able to promote such a strong position if the club was not completely united. "
"Sarantinos pretty much laid it out to Melbourne and all NRL clubs, pretty much if we receive something very good whether cap space or a rep player, he can leave. Ball is now in the court of the other 16 teams whoever can make the best trade…"
"I heard him say that on Kenty podcast. Kent pretty much laughed at him when he said Lomax goes for a challenge, Kent said yeah and money too. He saw through the rubbish.
But at the same time, Gillis is doing exactly what he should be doing,…"
