                    • Assuming Drown is getting paid $1.3M/year, that's a guaranteed $13M until he is 35 years old. How much would we have had to pay, and for how long, to make the Knights deal anything other than a no brainer? A five year deal would have him off contract at 30. Not a position most players want to be in. At 30 he could already be on the decline, and might struggle to get a better contract afterwards. Especially since his physicality is a big part of his game.

This is the Knights seeking short term gains for long term risk. Same with the Dragons and Koloamatangi. Are we as desperate?

                    • Sorry, that is false: Just a tad. You're a million off.

Dragons offered $1.2m per year for 5 years ON the cap.

Agents know. People in the game know it. Even Anasta spilled the beans on a podcast.

TPAs on top, I believe are a given.

Neither Souths nor us were going there ON the cap.

NO other club were. Only PNG maybe could match it because they're tax free.

                    • Why does everything have to come down to a counter offer from the eels ffs.  There were rumours that the brown management couldn't believe the clauses that the eels management had agreed to.

Take Sam Tuivaiti for example,  we offer him a 500 k upgrade and he'll likely take it before nov1.  You wait until after nov 1 and he gets 65pk offers from Perth,  then we have to counter offer

Its not rocket science pau pau ffs

Fmd, how hard is this for some people to understand.

                    • Where's the $1.2m figure come from HOE?

ABC, Fox, SMH, Nine, Sporting News all report $5m over 5 years.

I know it's all hearsay anyway, but all the reporting I saw indicated the sticking point was the extra year only. I didn't see anyone reporting KK was heading to a $6m deal.

                    • Anasta was the only one who reported it the most accurately $1.2m pa. You can believe the $1m pa media reports, but you'd by out by a $1m overall plus TPAs.

Cap, would you pay $6m for him for 5 years ON the cap?

Souths passed. So did we. A stuff up apparantly.

                    •

We don’t know, unfortunately, but Dylan is on record making a few claims and it obviously wasn't the 1.3m constantly pushed here, and less than we’ve then spent on Pezet anyway.

The Eels identified DB as a 10 year player ourselves remember (which he was signed on), and spent millions in his development, if they felt a line needed to be drawn for the sake of 50-100k per year, fine, but don’t draw that line with no plan B, miss C and end up with plan D (for 12months).

That should be unacceptable for all of us, Dylan fans or not, in a spine where you’ve already got 3 rookies, and invested 1.25m per year in a halfback to babysit - it’s not just the $$ to keep Brown, it’s the 1.25m currently wasted on Moses.

Everyone can make their own mind up on how this decision has worked out.

Risk? Of course, this is professional sport, no risk, no reward, but Peter O’Sullivan has the record to back his convictions - it also helped them keep Ponga. A similar snowball effect we are seeing at the Dragons with Drinkwater & Metcalf following Keaon.

                    • All reports are 5m over 5 seasons, if you can show the 1.2m reported from Anasta that would be interesting to read?

                      Google:
'No, Braith Anasta did not state that Keaon Koloamatangi signed for $1.2 million per season.
On NRL 360 and across major sports media outlets, the consensus from Anasta and other rugby league journalists is that Koloamatangi's blockbuster deal with the St George Illawarra Dragons is worth $1 million per season, totaling $5 million over a five-year period. [1, 2, 3]'
                    • Mate the people who are always pushing the highest bid of 1.3 mil, are the excuse makers for o'neill and the recruitment team. Nobody actually knows what the final figures were, but the extra year I think was the deciding factor

              • Ive already answered the question with my above post.

Now you explain why o'neill has been a resounding success.  Go right ahead

                • The clubs had success with MoN and co when BA was here we had a premiership challenging roster then and were the only team that gave the juggernaut Penrith Panthers a run consistently so I'll give credit for doing his job then.

The question is now can he do the same with JR can the mentioned and JR build a contender.Indications are not great at the moment and like the last few years of the last regime injuries rule changes and alike have played there part.

The bigger factors IMO and I think this is a bit damning how is it the bottom rung St George Dragons can fire a coach have absolute chaos going on in the back round but yet sign Kolomatangi Drinkwater and Metcalfe in the space of 6 months yet here we are still trying to find a long term solution for Dylan Brown 12 odd months after him signing for Newcastle. Why are we like a glacier that moves a foot a year I don't get it.We have everything these other clubs have off the park yet some how we aren't in contention for top tier talent when they come to market.Something isn't right.MoN JS MB our R N R what who is it.

One of the biggest if not the biggest club in Sydney and in the nrl treated like the red headed step child when it comes to recruiting and signing the mentioned.

I think the Burton/ Moses combination is perfect. The issue is the price tag attached to Burton and having upto 2.5 million invested in the halves,  especially when the Eels are currently struggling with quality in several areas. Signing Burton…"
