I heard something this week that got me thinking, and it made plenty of sense. I can't recall who said it. Someone was saying that the Eels style of play was based on physical and aggressive play in attack and defence. This style is taxing on the body over a long season and it is nearly impossible to play this style for the whole season. This could be the reason for the drop in form towards the backend of both this season and last. Sure playing physical, aggressive football is needed here and there, but it seems to be the only style the Eels play. I'm not sure if the Eels rely on this style due to the coaching and game plan provided by the coaching or if it's because of the type of players they have at the club.
The really consistent teams only play the power game when needed and for a limited time. Melbourne and Souths for example mainly use aggression when defending and trying to keep their opposition pinned in their own 20-30 metre zone. They can then change their style and play expansive attacking football when in attacking positions. It's easier to run between defenders than it is to run over the top of them.
Smarter play will beat power play more often than not.

Well if that was the case, ba should rest the team until the finals lol. It just ba being a dum fuck with his coaching
he actually just said as much in the presser. maybe we stay away from footy completely this week.
It was me lol. Ill take credit for it thanks.
The thing is our style is what it is and its ingrained so much that there is zero adaptability in the team
Yes absolutely, spot in blog.
We over train during the off season. With BA it's always the "hardest of season ever" we start the season primed for the finals 15 games too soon. Of course they will burn out.
BA needs to read up on some sports science.
manly were backed for the wooden spoon by many early on. They were unfit, but really that fine. You can't peak for 25 weeks. It's not humanly possible.
why do you think Ash Barty bowed out first round of the the Olympics a few weeks after winning Wimbledon? She had peaked for her main goal.. Wimbledon, then the body needs to reset for several weeks.
Sometimes you can go hard early to get a safe ladder position, slump for a while/ rest played in the middle rounds and then hit your straps a few weeks before finals. Bellamy is so good at timing that .
BA flogs the effort thing even before th season starts. We look like world beaters and then fall in a heap. It's getting a bit repetitive.
Some legend on here stated after round 2 or 3 that the power game won't get us too far. Who was that?
This will hurt the club going fwd for along time ,This will be more damaging than winning the spoon
We started the year strong because we played the shit teams. Yes we were dominant but that's because of the teams we played. FFS, please do some research Fox commentators. We beat an understrength Melbourne and the Roosters buy that's it. It's not like we were a top 4 team during that period, it's just that we were better than the likes of the Broncos, Dogs and Tigers.....
Phil Gould just mentioned team work and no culture. Pride. Spot on.
