Bulldogs pull out of race for Leo Thompson

The club that were favourites to sign Knights prop Leo Thompson have confirmed he will not be joining Canterbury. Leaving Canberra, Parramatta, St. George Illawarra and dark horse Sydney City in the chase for him.

His partner is from ACT which makes Canberra the favourites but it is good for us if we are interested in Thompson as media says we are. Have connections with Dylan Brown, who he is mates with from NZ duties.

  • Can't say I watched a lot of Knights games to know how good he is, but he seems to be getting a lot of attention from multiple clubs. I suspect he's currently asking more than his value and that's why Dogs pulled out, whoever gets him will likely be overpaying.

  • He wants overs and will go to the highest bidder. Fair enough

  • Ricky will pay overs for him.

  • This is the piece of the puzzle that we desperately need (having missed out on May). A real gangster for the forward pack.

  • We need another hard nose prop with mongrel. That's what Thomson has. And by all reports JNR looks 10/15 kgs lighter..

  • Would be a great signing, having played 64 games he has a lot of to upside to his game - international forward would a awesome addition to our forward pack, minor concern is what happening with that cap space that was freed up?

  • I'd say his asking price is too high for us. We got into a mess overpaying for middle forwards to being with.

  • As much as I would love for us to sign him, I wouldn't be breaking the bank to do it.

Our issues at hooker are far more pressing than they are with forwards.

    • Article from yahoo

The Bulldogs and Raiders have emerged as the two clubs most likely to sign the international prop, and The Daily Telegraph reports that Thompson has fielded a massive four-year offer worth more than $3.2 million. The same report claims Thompson has been offered as much as $900,000-a-season over four years to switch clubs, which has been denied by one of his suitors.

Agree BEM, although Leo's best years are ahead of him 900k is overs

"Our juniors need to know that if they are good enough they will get the nod over incumbents. This gives them the drive to succeed here, and also puts incumbents on notice."

Prof. Daz replied to Parra-all-the-way's discussion Did eels dodge a bullet with Galvin?
"Seems it is Galvin's role at Dogs that is the issue, not necessarily Galvin per se? Galvin permanently replaced Sexton at #7 for Dogs in Round 20 of 2025. After 19 rounds going into Round 20, Dogs were 3rd (12 wins, 4 losses, 3 byes; 366 (f) vs 270…"
