Broncos want to convince Boyd to retire.

So, the Brisbane Broncos plan to have a sit down at seasons end with Darius Boyd, in the hopes of convincing him to forgo $1.6M and retire. If successful, this will give them an almighty war chest, and subsequently all but ending our hopes of signing the beast (David Fifta). I know every team, including ours, have talked players into early retirement, but I’m not tracking the reason bring a drop in form, as oppose to serious injury. Surely, if this was to occur, there would have to be some type of salary cap implications?

I am not a subject matter expert on how the salary cap works, so I would love to hear from members on this site how the NRL could allow this to happen? I mean if he just up and retired, well that’s all fine and good, but now that it’s been advertised what their intentions are, well that’s a whole new story.

  • It’s the Broncos , of course he’ll retire and pick up his 1.6 million as a club greenkeeper for 6 months or something no doubt .

  • The Broncos willl fund a way to navigate around this issues for sure.

While it may seem like he loses out on 1.6mil now, it’s easy for the Broncos to find ways to pay him later, whether it be through shonky jobs, corporate deals, guest speaking etc... the money will get recouped down the track either way.

The issue for Boyd will be around trust...

Does Boyd have enough trust in the Broncos to eventually pay him the 1.6mil they owe him, or at least look after him post-career, or does he stand firm?

The funny thing is, Boyd’s already shaping up to be one of the Broncos fans most hated... I don’t think the Broncos or the fans are going to want anything to do with him post-career.

    • One word THOROUGHBREDS  .and for all you thats say they don't have the say OR power anymore  .here's one word for you also .BULLSHIT

  • One thing is certain, Boyd won't be getting a job in media.

  • If I was Boyd I would not retire . $1.6m is ALOT of money to give up and in fair dinkum department he is not someone who would legit get much coin post career

they say about him protecting his legacy , what legacy he was never considere elite like a Inglis who was being talked about as a future immortal . The only way I would say for him to retire would be if the broncos do  like Souths and pay him post career .

if he retires you know the broncos would have done the dodgy for him to make up that money as no sane person who was just a good player in their prime would give up $1.6m , there is no legacy to protect imo

    • Greg Inglis an immortal ? Is Tulsen Tollett also under consideration ?

Who has ( or should I say what imbeciles. The same dopes on TV who kept writing Canterbury off ?)  been talikng about Greg Inglis being an immortal

Bashed Spouse, Drove Pissed, Found a boat in his driveway that was his but doesnt know who payed for it , Rarely ran ball from line when forwards were tired. Somehow gets a commendation from NRL GM before retiring on full pay without it effecting his teams salary cap

Hell be remembered as a big lucky player maybe but nowhere near an Immortal

  • $1.6  ml  for 2 year remain, boyd wont retire...he may end up at souths..

  • Ambassador Boyd?

  • They’ll do what the rabbits did for Inglis. He’ll get the money he’s making now with an in club job. That was controversial when it happened with Inglis but they’ll get it done. If we don’t get Fifi it’s such a fucking bummer.
