There is an article in the Newcastle Herald that says Brock Lamb is in talks with his junior club, Maitland Pickers, and is considering quitting the NRL despite Eels contract.

Not necessarily. A lot of guys don’t like the grind of the NRL, and are happy to play for match payments in the local league, particularly a fairly strong one like the Newcastle group.
This doesn’t surprise me at all. I was surprised he agreed to a development contract in the first place.
I was a bit surprised that as a former NRL contracted player he was offered a development contract rather than a standard one instead. I have to say that if there is any truth in the aspect of him wanting to play in Maitland rather than honour his eels contract, is it a dummy spit for not getting the NRL contract? An easy out for him but nothing surprises me with the way players are these days regarding their main areas of games are probably hop scotch.
I don’t think so. I think it’s more of a case of financial reality. He probably figures he’s better off playing for match payments and living in Maitland than trying to live in Sydney on an NRL development contract. The cost of living difference would be astronomical, especially when he’s a back up only.
Yep $60k to live in Sydney, and he has to train full time in the development squad. I suppose he could drive Uber in his spare time.
In Maitland he would only have to train a couple of nights a week. He could get a full time job, his bills would be lower, and if he's the type of bloke who likes Maitland he would hate living in Sydney.

Would be doing well getting a full time job in Maitland or in many other areas in the HV, owing to the number of people already looking for work in the area. Even people with skills are finding it hard to get a job.
At 22 years of age on a $60K development contract is not bad really, especially for an unskilled person, if he was able to also do as other players do by including training with other education areas he would be better off.
You’re not taking into cost of living Colin. 50k in Maitland would be the equivalent of 150k in Sydney.
